The county estimates 1,600 homeless people will be displaced by these perimeters. But think carefully about who else will be impacted: vendors, day laborers, even residents in their homes. What kind of outreach is starting now to inform people about how their lives will look two years from now?

DASH didn’t have same safety issues as Metro when made free.

Wealthy countries don't usually have a lot of doctors & researchers who are good at diagnosing, tracking, & treating parasite infections. Why? Treating parasites is kinda walled off into "tropical medicine" and "third-world medicine." You know, USAID stuff.
Every time I think “I bet my kids could bike this mile to camp on slow, calm, neighborhood streets by themselves” some impatient asshole in an SUV nearly kills us all and I realize - nope. Guess not.

really the heuristics are straightforward: if an automated classifier system is purporting to do a task where -- trained humans can't reliably do it -- the classes are hugely imbalanced in the real world (e.g. one outcome is very rare) -- collecting a massive dataset is impractical it's ~bullshit
