A lot of the MAGA crowd wants the US to essentially become like the UAE, where there’s an enormous foreign workforce who have substantially fewer rights than citizens and are subject to awful working conditions. It’s a fever dream, but it’s their fever dream.

We can't solve a housing crisis without building more housing. Today we broke ground on the Casanova Residence, which will soon be nearly 100 affordable and supportive homes with on-site services for New Yorkers. Every new home is a step toward a City that everyone can afford.

Nobody disputes that having access to a car in a car-dominated society is good. It gives one access to jobs, healthcare, food, education, social opportunities and more. All we're asking is for people to go one step deeper and ask why access to such basic rights requires buying and operating a car.

it's the biggest technological revolution of our lifetimes and you almost never hear about it (because it threatens to bankrupt many of the fossil fuel interests who currently run our society)

A values system that views Pete Buttigieg’s time at McKinsey as disqualifying, but Graham Platner’s time at Blackwater as not, has beclowned itself regardless of the subsequent scandals.

i genuinely think that maga hates america. they hate america because america makes them feel small.

A lot of this is also rooted in the fact that left wing men would rather try to win back white working class men than build a coalition with white women with college degrees (who are decidedly economically progressive) and Black voters (older ones are conservative. Younger ones are more left-wing)

I am begging my fellow Americans to learn how parties work *literally* every where else. Candidates are not more legitimate just because they were selected via a primary. Parties regularly select candidates and then voters, in an election, tell the party if they liked them or not.

Thomas Paine was a problem for the majority of the “Founders.” Federalists printed runs of Common Sense with entire sections missing that undermined their cause. Others tried to co-opt his ideas, while demeaning him. He became part of the mythology, because he was too popular to leave out.
