🧵 A few thoughts on the geography of #SaintPaul 's shifting homeless encampments. The Fish Hatchery camp that Mayor Her forcibly cleared this week was on some of the most isolated land in the city, over 2 miles from downtown StP, surrounded by RRs, river, highways, & cliffs.
While it's good to hear there was considerable pushback on this, just imagine what kind of discriminatory bullshit goes on privately when homeowners like this feel so empowered to publicly disparage their renter neighbors about attending a public neighborhood event.

Driving home from a pool party in Uptown with my kids, & we passed both Alex & Renee’s memorials on our way. For whatever reason it hit me hard today & I just wept. Sometimes the heaviness of it all catches me unaware. But I’m glad I am not yet fully numb to it.
