It’s actually genuinely so nice @mayoroliviachow.ca came out to our bike lane rally in Toronto. The city isn’t real constitutionally but at least you know the mayor is as pissed as the rest of us.

I feel bad for the motorists who had to wait while we rode along Danforth for Critical Mass tonight, but they could have just taken side streets.
I think one of the things people who write this drivel can't understand is that if you're a Jew in America WITHOUT a parasocial attachment to Israel, it's not just that this isn't a hard choice it's that it's offensive to pretend otherwise. I am a Jewish dad with a Jewish kid living in America.
It is not a "grim choice" to support either a psychotic Republican or a mainstream center-left politician.
Not to stress anyone out but now that we’re in the RFK FDA era I think everyone should toss that Emily Oster book.
Holy shit, they're actually considering this. This provision would mean a federal ban on bike lanes on most Manhattan avenues and a ton of other NYC local streets. Write your Congressperson, this can't be allowed www.fhwa.dot.gov/planning/nat...
fhwa.dot.gov
ACTION ALERT 🚨 Right now, the Senate is considering adding language to the transportation reauthorization bill to restrict bike lanes. Tell Congress: funding for bike safety projects MUST continue! Take action: action.bikeleague.org/page/101946/...
The issue is northerners doing this. My wife is from Kentucky and uses "y'all" all the time. I don't, because I know I'll sound like a jackass if I try.
Minor point but I really hate this performative “y’all” people do to try and appear more folksy. I don’t type in a Yorkshire accent and I did people would rightly tell me to shut up.
Israelis will be like “we had to blow up the world central kitchen food trucks because Jose Andres is Hamas” and then wonder why nobody takes them seriously
Only 215 shopping minutes left until this week’s Silo
Stop ripping the damn bike lanes out, this schtick is really damn tired.
Who knew the Canadians could play the same game?
this is the first thing u see after u die if u end up going to Super Hell

This awful story is another reminder that helmets and high-viz will never be enough to fill the massive safety gaps left by insufficient infrastructure. A traffic calming device before the crosswalk likely would have prevented this death by forcing Knapp to stop, or at the very least, slow down.
She was wearing a helmet, in a crosswalk, with flashing warning lights. www.sevendaysvt.com/news/teen-cy...
i am simply not willing to end up as smoke up a chimney because people like this really enjoyed their birthright trip
www.theatlantic.com/podcasts/202... oh my god.
Jewish voter here. My answer is “stop defending Israel. Start defending the human rights of Palestinians. Vote for progressive Democrats who aren’t Jewish but whose policies embody tzedakah and stop leaning into right wing caricatures of anti-Netanyahu Jews.”
www.theatlantic.com/podcasts/202... oh my god.
jewish antizionists have been making the same argument for more than 100 years
The full text of Hasan Piker's statements, denounced by ppl from Hakeem Jeffries to Ben Shapiro. I am not sure the best way to respond to a moral panic, launched to stop progressive candidates & derail nec conversations re Israel's crimes, other than to call BS: there is nothing anti-Jewish here.
If you want to know why people get touchy around the helmet discourse, this is it. Elected officials who do not know the difference between different classes of legal e-bikes and who also can't distinguish them from illegal e-motos probably shouldn't also be writing bicycle helmet laws.
New Jersey just passed a requirement for helmet use for all e-bikes, including those limited to 20 mph. I think it will be a stepping-stone to requiring helmets for all bicycles.
yes, they recovered within minutes with no sign of permanent damage
One has to wonder if the BlueSky servers were wearing a helmet when they crashed
Zohran wasn't wrong for putting out that video, but this is genuinely a tricky needle to thread! This kind of person, unfortunately, has power in local politics, and it's important to constrain them as much as possible.
ya i mean i think cyclists would not be touchy about "hey its a good idea to wear a helmet" turning into "we're gonna write you a ticket if you aren't wearing a helmet" if people weren't constantly actually proposing the latter bsky.app/profile/benk...
Ffs. This wasn't comprehensive transportation policy. It was a gift for every NYC parent who doesn't want to argue with their kid about safety gear. He was modeling behavior. "But, Mom, the mayor doesn't wear a helmet!" Yes, he does, and there will be actual, countable lives saved because of it!
Mayor Mamdani's focus on a helmet paints deadly crashes as the failure of vulnerable road users to protect themselves, rather than as the failure of government to stop completely avoidable carnage. buff.ly/0HIM3RQ
The fixation on helmets often obscures the larger conversation about safe infrastructure, and the way I like to explain to people is this: The helmet protects you from yourself, but it won't protect you from anything larger than yourself. If you break it down that way, folks seem to understand.
whenever someone presents the normal take of "fixation on helmets is less useful than investing in infrastructure, as supported by actual evidence" people online will read "i am advising you, cyclist, not to wear a helmet" ...those are different things!
Japan beat our asses in the gas station food wars decades ago, and even harder than when Japanese carmakers came here. At least Ford and Chrysler didn't literally become Japanese corporations like 7Eleven and Lawson did. You're simply not gonna convince me Buc-ee's can hold a candle to FamilyMart.
This is interesting. A brand openly announcing it will only be available in Republican-led states.
i'm increasingly despairing that it is even possible to effectively deradicalize younger leftists away from de facto antisemitism because it's hard to argue with the weight of evidence without coming off as pro-Zionism
this is a genuine problem! how are you supposed to convince low-info voters that Israel is not controlling all their politicians when they do shit like this! what is it going to take for the 'AIPAC = Jewish actually' set to understand how monumentally dangerous this shit is
This video is fucking bananas. An SUV driver swerves into a group of cyclists in Florida before shooting at them. Cops still haven't found the driver: www.local10.com/news/local/2...
