A couple weeks ago I went out to Coon Rapids to doorknock for Angela Nelson, and on my ride home I stumbled across the Coon Rapids Dam, which is a stunningly beautiful place. I was back in Coon Rapids yesterday to judge a high school debate tournament, and made sure to go back on the same route.
We functionally pay violent drivers over $1 trillion per year in subsidies so they can kill and horrifically maim millions of Americans per year. That's the medical/loss of life/disability cost *paid by victims and society* for letting drivers drive violently. All so they can have cheap insurance.
Mandatory insurance minimums were quickly invented in the 1920s—papering over a massive hole in driving costs: unpaid debts to victims of crashes maxmautner.com/2026/09/11/l...
Someone destroyed 4 steel bollards in front of Dinkytown McDonalds. They’re pretty far from the road but I guess they tried to take a shortcut
This is correct. Dealerships make way more money off maintenance than sales for gasoline fueled vehicles.
Having bought two EVs and a hybrid, I think a big part of America’s sloth in adopt adopting EVs is car dealerships’ management being heavily Republican, and having a business model that relies on repairs that EV‘s don’t need.
This should be a pretty interesting discussion!

“Here’s what we found: Every additional 100kg of vehicle weight was associated with a 6% increase in odds of pedestrian fatality. Every additional 10cm of height was associated with an 11% increase in odds of pedestrian fatality. The relationship was even stronger in lower-speed environments.”
Big US-style trucks are killing more pedestrians in Australia – our research proves it
Pedestrians are more likely to be killed by heavier cars – and even more so if the vehicle is taller, Australian-first research has found.

I have been hearing from a lot of constituents about nuclear energy, both for and against allowing it. To get better informed on the issue, I will be hosting a forum on nuclear energy on Thursday, September 3, from 5:30pm to 7:30pm.
Speaking of Park Board finances - gonna keep bringing up that the annual parking pass has been ONLY $50 for YEARS. You could easily double that, and it’d still be a good deal!

They are more likely than other age groups to die after being hit by a vehicle.

If vehicles keep swelling, cities “could lose between 8.5-14% of their on-street parking capacity by 2040. London and Berlin alone are each projected to shed around 100K spaces…in dense cities, it’s a major issue worldwide.” #Carspreading pushes out more than parking spots. Tax cars by the inch.

Researchers argue that stopping vehicle growth could save lives, space, and billions in energy costs

That’s my family in the other bike and they came home ELATED by the surprise bike ride with friends. You don’t get that in a car, man.
How often, when driving a car, do you run across a friend, and then slow down and chat for a bit? It happens kind of a lot when you use bikes for transportation.
I had a serious bike accident in Minneapolis last month and was in the HCMC ICU for several days after needing emergency brain surgery. We put together a GFM; I'm looking for some help with the mounting costs as I recover. Anything you can spare will help <3 gofund.me/97b67235a

North Carolina State Senate just passed (44-1) H.162 the PARKING LOT REFORM/STORMWATER CONTROL bill! Costly parking mandates will be prohibited in more than 90% of the entire state starting 1/1/27 (pending an expected concurrence vote). Congratulations to everyone who put in time on this!!
THREAD 2: Senate Seats currently held by Republicans (or open from their retirements) that we can flip! ⬇️
Minnesotans: One of the most important things we can do in November is protect (and expand) the one-seat DFL majority in the Senate, and take back a DFL majority in the House. I’m going to quote this post with threads of protect and flip seats and candidate info for you to check out. #mnleg
These are the 6 DFL senate incumbents who are most important to help win reelection. Pick one or two and help them by donating or volunteering if you can!

The new and improved Ole Olson Park is such a cool spot. Really exciting stuff happening on the Northside riverfront.
When Einstein developed general relativity the closest thing to a practical application that could even be imagined at the time was a slightly more precise description of where to look for the planet Mercury in the sky, and yet now we’d all be literally lost without it. Anyway: fund basic research.
GPS satellites move at 1/100000 the speed of light, causing their clocks to tick slower by 7 microseconds per day, and orbit at a height that makes their clocks tick faster by 45 microseconds per day. Two relativistic effects, both at the 1 part in 10 billion level, both essential for GPS accuracy 🧪
Yes! And I strongly recommend people read the pithy and passionate "Field of Schemes" (book or blog) which opened my eyes even wider about the myriad & hidden ways that publicly-financed stadiums are a total corporate racket & giveaway to moneyed interests. www.fieldofschemes.com

I strongly support the sales tax increase to fund HCMC. We can't let our safety net hospital close. But I am intensely opposed to the $7 million per year that SF 4986 would also give to the Twins Stadium. It's a major expansion of corporate welfare. The Pohlads should pay for it!
Not sure a full ban is in the cards or necessarily desirable in some cases. But we absolutely must reconsider our relationship to parkways and I'm proud that the board voted to do just that. Will have updates on the pilot soon! Be sure to stay tuned and engage with it so it can be a huge success!

Hey terrible news! Mn Sen. Ann Rest has cut the HCMC-saving sales tax plan from 1% to .25%, hiked the Twins’ skim (from $7m to $9m, way above current $1.1m). The sales tax will fall far short of what HCMC needs, so will do more to save the Pohlads than the hospital. assets.senate.mn/committees/2...
