In the mid-20th century, auto and oil interests bought up electric streetcar systems across the US and systematically replaced them with bus routes and paved roads, funneling commuters toward private cars.

Yes, the work can pay well but it’s never guaranteed and you can get prolonged dry spells that can ruin you. There’s also a lot of hurry up and wait that goes on. Dates can change and jobs that seemed a certainty can disappear suddenly. The last three years have been disastrous.
