America's governors have a choice: administer decline under federal coercion, or build parallel capacity — health data walls, election defenses, and non-cooperation statutes — that make coercion expensive.

One of the Dem weaknesses is that we refuse to attack the MAGA base. Meanwhile they attack Dems as inherently evil people who might be demonic and whatever their corrupt politician is doing “Dems are worse”
This. All day long this. THIS is the reason we have trump.
all politics is performative the performance communicates important things to voters Not impeaching sends a clear message that both parties are totally cool with massive corruption in the executive branch It's a really horrible thing to do
"Musk spends....his free time fomenting violence and spreading the same hateful ideology that motivated some of the deadliest shootings and attacks ever to happen on American soil. It is that fact, and not the cars he builds or the rockets he launches, that ought to define his place in public life."

If today your excuse is "They don't have a House majority!" next year your excuse will be "They don't have 67 seats in the Senate!" There will always be excuses. They have to start fighting for freedom and democracy. Now. 1/2
They are not acting. They are doing nothing. You make excuses for them. but after the mid-terms you'll just make different excuses for them. We've seen this movie before. Pelosi won big in 2018, then immediately said "He's not worth impeaching" and let the massive crime spree continue.
What I don't understand is why US companies don't want Medicare for all. Providing, paying for, and dealing with health insurance is an enormous cost to US firms of all sizes. Seems like they would want that off their books to increase profits and free up money for investing in their businesses.
Loved this article. Great quotes from Henry Rollins. He's got the right perspective and attitude: Doing things out of love and appreciation, not because you want to make money. Impossible to imagine today's billionaires saying anything like what he says. www.motherjones.com/politics/202...

As someone who loves travel, I can't even imagine why you would do this. Part of the pleasure of travel is reading and learning about the country before you go, as part of the planning. Gen AI doesn't know what you, you specifically, like and enjoy.
Six out of 10 respondents to a survey in Japan on this year's summer holidays said they are relying on generative AI to make travel plans. 👉 ebx.sh/11iRbQ
Conservatives used to argue that if a popular movie encouraged courage and hope and celebrated family that that meant it was conservative and you should vote Republican. Now they argue that if a popular movie encourages courage and hope and celebrates family it is leftist propaganda.
people will say it's too soon to criticize enormously harmful people when they die. maybe we should consider that it's too soon to praise them, given the suffering that they inflicted on so many?
I wasn’t feeling guilty about celebrating this evil dude’s death but here’s a reverend telling you it’s ok if you are
Lindsey Graham is dead. While death is a serious matter, oppressors and the wicked dying can be a source of joy and relief. Let’s forego that “let’s consider his family” mess. He should’ve considered them and chosen to live a better life.
There is nothing “conservative” about the far right authoritarian party in 2026, & we should stop using that word to describe it or its politicians. They absolutely love affirmative action & welfare spending. It’s just that they do not want either of those things to be universal.
BTW the version of this in Iowa (where they have since mandated students take courses) was hiring an executive director making close to half a million a year. These things are basically welfare for right wing pundits.

A woman confronted him with facts. It’s going to take him a while to get over that.
It’s now been over 30 hours since Trump posted on truth social.
Exactly. I would be very happy if the whole country--the world, even--were run by "HR ladies."
In my experience, the kind of professional women being derided as "HR ladies" are more intelligent, more competent, & more decent than any given 50 of the pissant manbabies out there deriding them to impress one another.
We don't ordinarily publish posts at [checks watch] 8:51 PM on a Friday night, but state constitutional law expert Quinn @yeargain.bsky.social has an outside-the-box idea for reversing the VA Supreme Court that is very much worth taking seriously: Dems can simply lower the retirement age.
How Virginia Democrats can overturn the redistricting ruling: Retire the Supreme Court
The state Constitution gives lawmakers complete latitude to set the judicial retirement age. They should use it.

People don't understand why I hate (truly hate!) Musk so intensely. Here are three good reasons, for starters.
It's not hyperbole in the least to say Musk purchased a six-month shadow presidency for $280 million and used the power of that shadow presidency to 1. Steal the government’s data, 2. Permanently damage the state’s ability to regulate his businesses, and 3, kill non-white people.
I finished the novel. The nonfiction work, done rightly, will take at least a year more, so I'm giving in to the temptation to post these here.
“To say that President Trump is corrupt is to somehow understate the size, scope and magnitude of his corruption. It is as if you were to describe a modern thermonuclear device as a ‘bomb.’ That is true enough, but it is not quite the truth. It does not capture the nature of the thing in full.”

If only a dozen Republicans in Congress found the will, they could impeach and remove him today.
20 Republican Senators are all that are needed to convict Donald Trump in an impeachment trial. Hell, 20 Republicans could walk to the White House today and threaten to vote to convict, and Trump would stop this posturing. If you want Congress to "do something," start with them.

A modest proposal: Absent congressional authorization, presidential uses of force amounting to war should automatically raise the top 3 tax brackets by 50%. You know, to pay for the war.
Average union soldier memoir: "at first I was like I signed up for this war, but is it really worth it? Then I saw the reality of chattel slavery and I had to be physically restrained from slaughtering every white southerner I encountered"
yes, most of what you know about the civil war came from people who weren’t there and had an agenda (shelby foote-esque southern sympathizers). people who were there described it as a jihad against the satanic plantation aristocrats
