BREAKING -- Mike Johnson says he's unaware of major news developments
Yet another issue where every single person who touched it needs to end up in jail for us to have any semblance of the rule of law. You cannot have a functional democracy where the government creates a plan to literally throw away votes from places that don't support the incumbent party.
This is pretty fucking wild. I had assumed in a worst case scenario he would target blue zip codes and toss ballots based on technicalities but this is even worse than I imagined.
the rare definition of "woke" that includes Trump, JK Rowling, and Adolf Hitler, but excludes the NAACP
I have to admire his ability, after all these years, to come up with a definition of "woke" that is even dumber and worse than anything that came before.
Got An Editor's Decision For A Paper I Reviewed But I Thought It Was For A Paper I Wrote: A Memoir
It's mostly not about the technology, itself. They are angry about A.I. because they are anxious about how to be successful. No one in charge will tell them the new path to upward mobility. No seems to want to even figure one out. All anyone will talk to them about is A.I.
OK, class, can anyone tell me the problem with this research design? Short answer quiz, five words. Congratulations, you know more than the United States' newspaper of record.
the year is 2027. gas costs $83 and lettuce is at war with us. however every location on every map now says AMERICA
Now with alt text! 23% drop in student visas to US in 2025 57% drop from India alone catastrophic for research and learning, here and abroad www.insidehighered.com/news/global/...

One way you know Dolly Parton lived life the right way: I don’t think anyone’s going to get fired for accurately quoting Dolly Parton today.
This isn't just a story about rogue spam PACs and fundraising firms like PTP and Mothership that the party hasn't reined in. There's a cottage industry of spam vendors, and the DCCC/DSCC's fundraising bears the hallmarks of elder financial exploitation, just toned down. Side-by-side comparison 👇🧵
These are people who legally entered this country and now, because of ancestry and a conspiracy theory pushed by an aspiring politician, are being pursued by the government and fitted with special monitoring devices. This should remind of the darkest events in history.
Haitians living in Springfield, Ohio are being required to wear ankle monitors and turn their passports over to United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement. ohiocapitaljournal.com/2026/08/14/h...
it is categorically insane that a very large portion of the WH press evaluates the White House like they're evaluating their wait staff at a fucking restaurant
So much discourse is trying to parse some hidden (and more rational) meaning when these are people who very openly say what they mean. In part because it feels unsophisticated for professional take-havers to just say, for example, "Elon Musk is a white supremacist." But it is actually that simple.
Really glad @polphilpod.bsky.social is making this argument at length at @liberalcurrents.com The fascists really do believe what they say. That’s part of what makes them so dangerous. www.liberalcurrents.com/fascists-rea...
Any polisci/law faculty out there have an edited version of Trump v. Barbara to share with students? Or if not, would it be helpful if I make one? Polisky
for the record, it absolutely does. not. matter whether the “institutional left” or “activists“ or “ordinary residents“ are organizing or funding or otherwise doing stuff that is not domestic terrorism. The salient point is that they are not doing domestic terrorism.
A jaw-dropping report of weaponized political surveillance. The government grabbed years of sensitive records from major progressive groups and unions, baselessly claiming they were needed to address threats of "domestic terrorism" It's a near perfect mirror of the J Edgar Hoover COINTELPRO abuse
If we take their argument at face value, no, this hypothetical Newton should not be hired by Cambridge. Their whole premise is that his brain is stuck three hundred year in the past. That wouldn't just apply to "pronouns," it'd apply to math and physics too.
Apparently the test of the modern university is whether it would accommodate a seventeenth century academic exactly as he was
Can't think of a more perfect example than this. We've had years of panic about anti-trans bigots being criticized online. Meanwhile, actual trans people are facing the possibility of imprisonment and sexual assault. www.nytimes.com/2026/08/13/o...
“Silly” is a good way to put it! There were excesses in 2020 but they were mostly low-stakes efforts by well-intentioned people to address real injustices. The excesses of the right during the same era were far more harmful. The reckoning we need now is about how elites lost sight of that.
JFC ban these sex crime glasses in healthcare. If anyone you know buys them it is your duty to mock them until they stop wearing them.
Woman Calls Out Doctor Wearing Smart Glasses During Consultation Where She Had To Take Off Her Clothes: 'They Need To Be Banned'
A woman's discomfort with a doctor wearing smart glasses during a consultation has sparked debate over privacy and the use of camera-equipped technology in healthcare settings.

Doctors say that childhood vaccines save thousands of lives. A guy who shits himself in public and struggles to pass basic cognitive tests say they cause autism. For busy parents, it can be hard to know who to trust.
The president is refusing to spend taxpayer money assisting Americans suffering from natural disasters solely because their states didn't vote for him. I know there are a thousand scandals at the moment, but this one deserves some more oxygen at every level.
Is this just business as usual in politics? No. Approval rates of federal disaster aid requests were about the same regardless of the state and did not vary much with the party of the President. This graph powerfully conveys the scale of the partisan discrimination now.
It's absolutely wild to be posting about a "sinister movement that destroyed careers and reputations for the smallest thought crimes" when we've just lived through the wave of firings following Charlie Kirk's murder & purging of career civil servants / military officers because they're not white men
Glenn Greenwald and Ryan Grim are calling for a "reckoning" over Woke 1.0.
If youre inclined to give any credence to Annie Jacobsen's Nuclear War or Biological War books, be aware "Roswell 1947 was Stalin sending Mengele-mutants to scare America" is literally something she claims in her earlier Area 51 book
anyway the """fact based""" argument in this piece of shit is a ~bioengineered~ whatever that somehow kills literally everyone in the US in a week lmfao not sure if this better or worse than genetically modified mengele kids doing Roswell for stalin
Just so predictable. Labour got themselves into this because those who aren't True Believers thought they could appease those who are then the issue would go away. Not so. The GCs are obsessives attempting a top down reorientation of our culture to spite a minority they despise. They must be fought.
My near-term prediction is this will be met with soft resistance (and not always principled, or at least as much motivated by unwillingness to pay and sheer indifference) initially from British civil society, and the next round fight is a bunch of lawsuits from GCs to try and force compliance.
Has anyone done something with paper journals in the college classroom? Ideas/tips/other? I will have a typed option for students with accomodations but overally just trying to get creative with AI issues.
it's always odd when "you should expose yourself to more diverse ideas" always means a certain kind of conservatism instead of like, Indigenous art, new fusion foods, math paradoxes, or the Dvorak keyboard layout
I'd love to hear why my book White Flight -- which won prizes from the Southern Historical Association and the American Political Science Association -- was deemed not good enough for students at Texas A&M.
Only a matter of time before Texas forces @kevinmkruse.bsky.social to drink hemlock. www.aclutx.org/press-releas...
