Well, when we're discussing "who should get to regulate AI, and how," I think it's VERY relevant to talk about the antisocial, unsettling ways many people running US AI think.

There it is. You just knew something very bad had happened they weren’t telling us about. I’d say hallucinating us into WWIII would clear that bar.

i am genuinely bewildered by people who say that the rise of white nationalism in the republican party is a response to the "woke left." like, did the woke left cause pat buchanan's 1992 presidential campaign? is the woke left why steve king had a long career in congress?
something i find fascinating about X-Men and Marvel stories more generally is that the lore or the canonical narrative kind of exists in semi-independence from original material. what im trying to say is, comic books are the talmud.

Krieger was incredibly ahead of his time as a character (and a character-type) and we'd do well as a culture to recognize this.

so when the Ds were in this position they told people "democracy" was more important. Rs say "national security," in the rare cases where they admit the premise of the question. an interesting window, imo, into the broad psychology of the respective coalitions.

This is absolutely true. I think the concerning thing was that knowing calculus, reading Bentham or having kinks haven't been a strong predictor of one another in the past 40 years, and the fact that a calculus-based industry started requiring the other two implies some enforcement of extreme norms.
let me put it this way. when moses came down from sinai with those heavy-ass tablets and saw the golden calf, do you think he also saw people fucking? i think he definitely also saw people fucking — people dressed as the golden calf, most likely.
