From Pits to Plaques: Electron Microscopy Reveals Clathrin Structural Plasticity in Trafficking, Sorting and Adhesion
Clathrin plaques (magenta) form large, flat membrane-associated lattices embedded within the cortical actin cytoskeleton, and can be distinguished from individual clathrin-coated pits (yellow). These....

Endosomal membrane state governs trafficking and cell migration under TFEB control
Transcription Factor EB (TFEB) regulates the biogenesis of lysosomes, which are acidic organelles of the endosomal network. While its role in cellular clearance is well established, the pleiotropic fu...

🧵 What if one reason fertility declines with age isn’t just genetic-but mechanical? Thrilled to share our new paper in @NatureCellBio : Elevated contractility drives implantation failure in mouse embryos from aged females… here’s what we found 👇 www.nature.com/articles/s41... 1/11
Elevated contractility drives implantation failure in mouse embryos from aged females - Nature Cell Biology
Cavanaugh et al. show that embryos from aged mice have increased contractility and tissue viscosity on embryonic day 4.5, which leads to poor spreading and attachment. Similar age-associated mechanica...

Everyone says AI will accelerate science. I don't think it will -- at least not in biology, and at least not soon. New post where I explain why, and how the productivity paradox can be resolved: blekhman.substack.com/p/why-ai-wil...

Excited to share our new paper, now published in Nature Cell Biology! 🎉 We asked a fundamental question in cell biology: How do cells maintain polarity while migrating? Especially how do cancer cells navigate confined spaces? www.nature.com/articles/s41556-026-01981-1

Starting to write up the first mechanistic paper from my lab about regulation of endosomal PI(3)P. We see retromer tubules (Vps35) budding from PI(3)P positive sorting endosomes with Actin at the neck. When PI(3)P homeostasis is perturbed this organisation breaks down and cells cant recycle cargo.
Alright, I am pausing my social media break to share with you the final review of my PhD erra (times fly by 🥲). Featuring 2 of my favorite science fields: #RNAbiology and #celladhesion 😍. Also a fantastic collab with one of my top #women_in_sci role models: Stavroula Mili 💙

i visited DSHB @dshb-antibodies.bsky.social 2 years ago, incredible how such a critical community scientific resource is run so efficiently, economically and humbly. they maintain 1000s of mAbs at cost, and are fully self-supported from just a couple lab rooms!
By the way, @dshb-antibodies.bsky.social is a non-profit that sells quality antibodies to many proteins at exceptionally reasonable prices, without AI generated faux-validation images. Check them out. dshb.biology.uiowa.edu
