I Vejle må kolonihusejere tage drastiske midler i brug for at få lovliggjort deres kolonihavehuse. I Ikast har en rigmand overtrådt naturbeskyttelsesloven som efterfølgende bliver dispenseret for. Lighed for loven? #dkpol #dkmedier www.dr.dk/nyheder/indl...

Så! Huset er skåret midtover, og nu er det lovligt

Mens en gruppe af beboere i Vejles kolonihaver fører retssag mod kommunen, har andre valgt af lovliggøre deres huse.

As I keep pointing out, does no one understand Ricardian comparative advantage anymore. FACT: China produces over 1 million engineering graduates per year FACT: To date, China has not produced a single internationally marketable game show format Where does it look like our advantage lies?

A cheery message from the new minister responsible for research funding for the Arts, Humanities, Social Sciences (and the subjects that the majority of UK taught undergraduate and Masters students study).

From the reporting on Netanyahu ignoring explicit warnings of a Hamas attack days before Oct 7th, to confirmation that Netanyahu rejected a Hamas offer to release civilian hostages right after Oct 7th, without conditions, this Haaretz piece is astonishing: archive.ph/Z4lXx

This is the necessary end point of both the US sanctioning the ICC and the ridiculous willingness of US tech companies to collaborate with the worst impulses of the US government. I am so enjoying watching the fully EU stack emerge. Digital sovereignty will be a beautiful future.

Switzerland's Federal Government is Replacing Microsoft on 3,000 Computers This is the pilot phase, with 3,000 workstations moving away from Microsoft 365. The federal administration has over 54,000 computers. itsfoss.com/news/swi... 1/2

Russia basically has two futures. Accept that they are a middle-ranking nation and work in concord with a Europe that will respect them as equals, or don't do that and continue to engage with China who will pay lip-service to their Imperial affections whilst really treating them as their suzerain.

The Lake Ontario/Lake America thing is a profoundly stupid version of it, but in millions of other subtler ways, we are force fed American values and American ideas about the world, because American companies like Google control the internet.

Gonna briefly do an AI take: it used to be possible to have interesting discussions about AI here, and it's got progressively less so. You can't just think AI is bad, or overhyped, you've also got to subscribe to a very particular worst-case scenario about *how* it's bad and how bad it is.

There is a broad and durable political coalition in Canada to stand up to Trump. The political coalition for hammering Canada with tariffs in the US is basically confined to a few Twitter posters.

🗞️As a former Managing Editor of Stars and Stripes I can tell you it is the most important newspaper in the world because it exists to inform and protect our troops from people like the despicable Pete Hegseth and Donald Trump who do not believe they — or anybody for that matter — are owed the truth.

Stars and Stripes editor says he has been fired for insubordination after doing interview

The editor-in-chief of Stars and Stripes says the Pentagon has fired him as well as its publisher and a reporter.

Good example of the dynamic on here, which is not that the site has "pro-AI" and "anti-AI" factions, but that even acknowledging the existence of a massive field of ubiquitous new technologies is verboten except via hysterical, belligerent ignorance. It's a pure cultural norm untethered to reality.

"A bunch of people would rather post on Race War Now Dot Swastika rather than Bluesky because you keep making fun of their imaginary computer friend" is a RESOUNDING endorsement for the concept of hostility.

Part of a thread from some bluecheck:
Multiple people I know have told me that they love the idea of Bluesky, and want it to succeed, but have abandoned it for X because the use agentic tools in their work and find them incredibly useful, and feel that any mention of their usage here leads to hate and ridicule.

I wouldn't bring this up if it was just one person, but it was multiple people since the beginning of August who mentioned in passing something to the effect of either "I'd spend more time on Bluesky if people weren't so anti-AI" *or* "As much as I hate to be there all the useful AI talk is on X."

I'm not saying it's anyone's responsibility to praise AI usage. I agree with much of the criticism of the tool. But for many, many people, it is a useful tech (I have talked about the ways I find it extraordinarily useful, only to have people here mock me, insisting my lived experience is a lie).

I am just noting that for all the people here who say that people should get off X and spend more time here, the reason I keep hearing from people in various circles who would *like* to do that, but don't, is the vociferous belief of many here that there are no possible positive uses of AI.

Today, I'm writing an article, but I like to dictate my words instead of typing them on the keyboard. With a bit of AI processing, it actually gets 99.9% of the words correct because it understands what I'm trying to say, and the punctuation is perfect. Nice!

We need the discussion about AI to move beyond the "AI is bad" shitstorm level on Bluesky. It's hurting the adoption of open social media, because normal people don't like getting yelled at. So I think I'll start posting more success stories about how AI is useful in my life.
