we are going to have to be prepared for these people getting even stupider and more vicious as power starts to slip through their fingers

A lot of people are struggling right now. Including your queer and trans fam, and your artists friends, and the people who are both. The mental health pressures are real and the consequences are potentially devastating. Check on your people. Let them know how much you love having them around.

Clean air in schools reduces infections for the WHOLE POPULATION. Why WOULDN’T we clean the air? The healthcare/missed work costs far exceed the infrastructure costs, don’t let them get away with “it costs too much”. Demand clean air in schools and workplaces!

New study suggests that raising school ventilation levels to ASHRAE 241 targets could reduce flu cases by 33% for the WHOLE POPULATION! We need clean air in schools so bad!!! www.medrxiv.org/content/10.6...

Projected Health Impacts of Cleaner Air in NYC Schools
Geetha Jeyapragasan and Charlie Whittaker I University of California, Berkeley
We modelled the projected impact of higher levels of ventilation and filtration in NYC schools. We did this by assessing the impact of achieving a field-recognized standard for healthy indoor air (ASHRAE Standard 241), developed by the American Society for Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning, the professional association of ventilation engineers. Adopting it in schools would reduce the burden of seasonal respiratory illness and improve preparedness for future epidemics.
We developed an epidemiological modelling framework to estimate how improving building air quality affects airborne disease transmission in schools. Here, using seasonal influenza as a case study, we share results about the potential public health impact of raising ventilation such that all schools met ASHRAE 241 targets, approximately 9 equivalent air changes per hour (ACH).

Why This Matters for New York City
ALL FLU CASES
New York City operates the largest public school system in the United States, with approximately 880,000 students across 1,800 schools. A large portion of this infrastructure predates modern ventilation standards, with the average school building around 70 years old. An inspection of NYC schools i…

This is why I love seeing all the many Gen Z trans folks who lean hard into defiant DIY punk culture. They're absolutely refusing to cede ground; if anything they're dialing up the transness even louder. Gen Z on the whole is by far the most pro-trans generation - the refusal to back down matters

I have been a guest at conventions where, during the pre-con walk through, my handler has pointed out the bar and mentioned how some guests are "more fun" and "get asked back," then names only men. Because a lot of female guests aren't comfortable hanging out around alcohol with strangers.

Yes every woman has been harassed, many assaulted. But every woman has also experienced invisible loss from moments she avoided harassment. She felt a space becoming unsafe, so she left, while men stayed on. And in leaving, she lost: opportunities, experiences, learning, promotions, even simply fun.

Just because someone who is literally selling something makes extraordinary unfounded claims about it doesn't make it true You know this about vacuum cleaners; it's embarrassing that you can't hold it in your heads about computers

"The current level of political animosity is exactly what one would expect to see if an extremist faction attempted to rescind the hard-earned rights of the vast majority of the country’s citizens." There are not enough exclamation points to convey how I felt reading this paragraph

Screenshot of article which reads: From this perspective, the “both sides” frame falls apart. The prob-
lem is not that the parties are divided. The problem is the existential
threat that a reempowered ethnonationalist strain poses to pluralistic
U.S. democracy writ large. The current level of political animosity is
exactly what one would expect to see if an extremist faction attempted
to rescind the hard-earned rights of the vast majority of the country’s
citizens. The only way to re-oppress most of a country is to use anti-
democratic and authoritarian tactics. And the only way to oppose those
tactics is to push back as a population and clearly reject them. This is
the argument happening in the United States, and its pathology is not
anger—it is the movement to undermine a generation of rights.
