here's a fun lil exercise for cis people: how many articles would a publication have to print calling for your extermination before you would expect people who care about you to stop giving them money? and how would you feel if their excuse for still supporting them is some fuckass crossword puzzle?

No, I don't want to close the tab, I need to refer back to it again later, and the data I need to read may not be there again when I try to load it again later. No, the Wayback Machine can't capture it because it's fucking loading some JSON. I want an idle page doing nothing to do fucking nothing!

QotD: If you ask a hospital "What happened to the patients who had sepsis during your ransomware attack", their lawyers will say "Sir, this is a Wendy's please don't ever call me again"

the real risk of child sexual abuse isn't trans people using the restrooms or locker rooms that reflect their genders, it's coaches and teachers and youth pastors who you want to give a legitimate reason to be inspecting their genitals in the name of oppressing people who aren't hurting anyone

how many real people have experienced actual, documented harm at the hands of Trans people playing sports? ok, how many children will be victimized by mandatory genital inspections, because you know the number isn't zero? tell me again, who are you trying to protect here??

If this gets instituted, we’re going to see a study in a few years that says, “Black children, and children of color, were pepper sprayed at nineteen times the rate of white children,” and mfers are going to act surprised, despite how clearly every data point says this will be the case.

“The drones wouldn’t break up a schoolyard fight…But if one of the students pulled a knife, they could.”

I worked at Disney a while ago. Do you know why theme parks are so safe? Because OOSHA reps can walk the track on any ride at any time and any safety violation they see is a $10,000 fine. Each. Theme parks are not safe because the company cares. They're safe because it's cheaper to comply.

Turns out that food companies were only checking their food because the government told them to, which is exactly why we need government regulations.

The safety of our community is our highest priority. For this reason, we have decided to postpone DEF CON Middle East. The evolving security situation in the region makes it impossible to concentrate on delivering the experience attendees deserve.

DEF CON Middle East Postponed

We understand that this news is disappointing, but we believe it’s the most responsible choice right now. We look forward to bringing the full DEF CON experience to friends new and old in Bahrain, and we will share new dates and information as soon as they are confirmed.

Wired sets the frame that the model “escaped containment,” but from an accountability perspective, OpenAI left a door open by failing to properly isolate their system. Real headline: “OpenAI’s security failure leads to cyberattack against another AI company.”

WIRED headline:
OpenAl Models Escaped Containment and Hacked
Hugging Face
Subhed: The cybersecurity-focused models, including GPT-5.6 Sol, broke out of a testing sandbox, exploited a zero-day, and gained access to the open internet to pull off the attack.

A white supremecist has higher order epistemological issues that make everything else they think suspect. They aren’t wrong on one minor issue, they fundamentally misunderstand people and society how they interact.

Nobody disputes that having access to a car in a car-dominated society is good. It gives one access to jobs, healthcare, food, education, social opportunities and more. All we're asking is for people to go one step deeper and ask why access to such basic rights requires buying and operating a car.

I grew up in Jackson Heights in Queens and we still had a car, and our lives got measurably better when we did.

Probably more helpful to think of them not so much as “Canadian wildfires” but rather “climate change wildfires currently consuming Canada”

if your dad sucks let me—an actual dad—use father's day to tell you what I think every child deserves to hear from their parents: I'm proud of you, and so glad you're figuring out how to survive this messy world. The world is better with you in it. This is extra true if you're trans.
