it would shock the average person how many anti-trans activists had a partner or child who came out as trans and, rather than being supportive, they obsessively worked to "purge" transness from their lives (as well as society)...
huh

you are not a morally better person because you don't know what an integral is
This is heartbreaking, and I think the correct angle of attack. Prisoners’ rights are broadly unpopular, so focus on the collateral damage. Their kids didn’t do anything to deserve this.
Children Deserve the Right to Hug Their Incarcerated Parents
Forty years after my family fought for the right for me to hug my mother in prison, children are still being denied the same human connection.

gonna start a conspiracy theory that it's actually linear algebra itself that makes people start believing head-slappingly cockamamie pseudo-religious nonsense, like people think studying the nature of infinity makes you lose it wait'll you hear about positive semidefinite matrices
i know a guy who was maybe 5’10” and 170 pounds who had to attempt to guard shaq in high school, yet the texas legislature remained curiously silent on the issue
One thing I am learning from this whole stupid slow-rolling debacle is that not enough people have seen Derrick Henry’s high school tape
I don’t know, the obvious size, strength and speed advantages that a person born and having gone through male puberty have MIGHT make playing girls’ lacrosse, basketball, soccer, etc less safe for smaller, weaker and slower players. IT IS SO RARE. Why are you people so rigid in your opinions?
I kinda doubt we're that close to a hyper intelligent AI that decides to kill everyone, but I am quite worried about "antisocial 15 year old uses open model to hack the northeast power grid" and the like
politics is not monocausal etc etc, but we def get a bit too clever by half trying to explain why people vote for right wing parties, especially in europe imo. 'they're against immigration so they vote for the most anti-immigrant party' explains a whole lot.
as a first principle, 'how other men behave toward me' has zero evidentiary value in evaluating how they behave toward woman
Some of you don’t understand how “big” / “important” / “influential” you are . Even in your small circles. I need you to, because you do not comprehend how much terrible people will keep it together around you .

how it feels to wake up every day to a new sky marchini chart that sure makes it look like the bottom's about to fall out

we've been at tank bottoms for literally weeks now and apparently that doesn't matter, because as we've now pretty conclusively established: donald trump is the world's specialest boy and it can only good happen
anyway if we're sharing 9/11 kitsch in advance of the anniversary, here's my favorite
I do think “every rich person went insane during covid because it was the first time they’ve been inconvenienced in decades” felt a little reductive at first but damn if isn’t more and more compelling as the years drag on
that small upward spike there in 2021-22 is like half of what drove the billionaire class completely nuts
BLS this morning, with revised 2Q data: "The labor share, which is the percentage of output that accrues to workers in the form of compensation, was 52.8 percent in the second quarter of 2026, the lowest level in the series, which begins in the first quarter of 1947."
Eventually the bloodlust of the righteous mob becomes self-motivating and loose in defining its targets. Huh. I wonder if anyone has ever written anything on that.
Thing is, soaps are back. That's what "second screen" shows are, unlabeled soaps. They're just the worst parts of soaps (meandering plots that go nowhere, constant repetition for viewers who aren't paying attention), without the benefits (super cheap and efficient to make, scads of long lost twins).
the masses yearn for the return of Soaps
I had a pretty…egregious experience with a well known journal. They violated blind review, sent to buddies, didn’t accept other reviewers comments etc etc My chair said, “I’ve never seen anything like this. I know these scholars. I don’t know why they would do this??“ I was like, uh, I do.
My dissertation got bogged down for months bc the committee told me I needed to cut down citations & footnotes. I cut them—but when I sent chapters out as articles I got a LOT of feedback that my work wasn’t well documented. I took it back to my committee, who were baffled until I explained racism…
We're gonna lose a major surface combatant. No, not sunk. Like actually lose. Can't find. No idea where it went.
This would be very bad for the country and the Navy. dccc.org/hung-cao-com...
This is the single biggest physics discovery of my entire lifetime. Or something's wrong with one of the cables. One of the two
BREAKING: The world's most sensitive dark matter detector has announced it has spotted something it can't easily explain: a single event that's tantalizingly consistent with a type of theorized dark matter particle. Very early days yet, but pretty wild. 🧪 www.science.org/content/arti...
Hegseth is a garbage person for many reasons but top of the list is he's a literal murderer who should spend the rest of his life in prison. That's not to minimize his many other offenses but I do think it's worth keeping in mind the obnoxious hateful buffoon is first and foremost a serial killer.
Casual conservative bigotry fused with US foreign policy consensus results in funny situations like this where a Republican candidate will attack his opponent for being of an inferior race while that Republican candidate stands on a platform of giving said inferior race's dictator weapons forever.
"we want cheap goods" "we want good paying manufacturing jobs" okay so which one
I do think people keep saying shit like "an economy that stopped making things" and the problem there is that brickmaking used to be like a whole towns deal and is now done by one guy and an industrial kiln
this was written by Daniel Penny, whom they employ in spite of his having no relevant qualifications of any kind
Speaking as someone who’s a bit closer to seeing the direct impacts of the MAGA murder of USAID than some, I just don’t have a ton of patience for people who want to condemn USAID for what it was and who also don’t have opinions or solutions on dealing with the hideous fallout of its destruction.
So sure, USAID was a tool of US soft power and political influence, and also, I sometimes get the sense that people saying this don’t quite comprehend the torrent of death, horror, and pain that is currently unfolding from the genuinely evil decision to suddenly destroy it.
