This is ALWAYS THE CLUE. Our journalistic class is (mostly) self-aware enough not to publish stories that are pure bigotry and resentment, but some stories give people a facially-plausible pretext to indulge in bigotry and resentment. You notice that these stories tend to get covered A LOT.
