White cishet GenX man (hence: he/him)—don't hold it against me. Friend to all but the willfully uninformed. Hard to witness what's happening; moreso when you have cancer. Mask up. (Banner: hot sauce bottles. PFP: Long Covid Awareness Month masked selfie)

folks donating to state legislative candidates is some of the biggest bang for your buck you can get in politics if you want to feel like you’re making a difference and not just throwing your money in the ocean, this is where to focus your efforts

holy shit we have raised over $50K last week!! as promised, I have refreshed the list with the next group of 9 candidates, with a focus on including the Michigan swing district candidates who just won their primaries last week! 🧵thread on all the new candidates below:

Part of the problem with pretending Covid is over (besides the massive ethical issues and the science) is it effectively destroys your ability to understand why anything is happening the way it’s happening now. You can only ram into that wall of cognitive dissonance so many times.

It's weird that Americans can talk about how restaurants have gotten so much worse in the last several years, and somehow not connect it with covid killing and disabling so many restaurant workers. That's some serious fucking memoryholing, maybe a symptom of longcovid.

61 years ago today, Lyndon B. Johnson signed the Voting Rights Act into law. This April, the Supreme Court’s MAGA majority gutted what remained of it. Its importance has never been more worth remembering and fighting for. Watch President Obama's remarks on the Act's 50th anniversary:

If Democrats are in control of either or both chambers of Congress in 2027 when the SNAP and Medicaid cuts hit, voters will blame them unless elected Dems get in front of the messaging and/or Dem governors fill in the funding gaps. It's not fair but American voters have the attention span of a gnat.

Dad is not an educated guy. He is not a gender studies professor. He is just an old hippie trying his best and loving his kids. And knowing he is out in the world ready to flatten the next person who would tell him I’m a freak grants me a surprising amount of strength when I’m out there too

Hey folks, today is the six-week marker since @hollowoak.bsky.social's prostate cancer surgery! All things he's considered, he's doing really well, and he'll have his final follow-up appt next week. But he'll need some more donations until his next paycheck comes in. www.gofundme.com/f/support-ch...

"Women accounted for 100 percent of the decline in the labor force in July, according to a National Women’s Law Center analysis of the Bureau of Labor Statistics’s latest dismal jobs report. Overall, the economy lost 23,000 jobs in July: Women lost 32,000 jobs, while men gained 9,000."

Trump’s Terrible July Jobs Numbers Only Hurt Women

And the number of women who have left the workforce since January is more than double the number of men.

things were designed to get worse after the midterms in the hope of better midterms but the midterms will already be very bad so what we are going to get is carnage the day after power changes hands and an even more extreme republican minority

i think probably the most undercovered story in the united states right now is how many of the draconian HR1 cuts to SNAP and Medicaid don't even start until 2027 and the devastating effect that will have on poorer communities.
