I attended KC Metro open house tonight and got answers to some of my questions, though I wasn't able to get an answer on what the expected time savings are, which if I was selling a rapid ride line I would make a central part of my argument

I have major concerns about the Rapid Ride R proposed stop consolidation. Without a local bus, people with mobility disabilities, traveling with young children or carrying groceries will lose access. Why not make the 9x more frequent, all-day service?

Removing stops, especially when there won't even be worthwhile time savings, will harm seniors, people with disabilities and people traveling with small kids or groceries. Why is this even being discussed as a viable option?

As @nondriver.bsky.social previously noted, Metro does not have time saving estimates from the stop consolidation. The presenter today mentioned the main reason for the stop removal is to meet the RapidRide standard. 0.5mile stop spacing seems extreme, even for RR.

14 hours later and my mentions are still full of angry treatises about badly behaved cyclists. Bike lanes are not a reward for good cyclist behavior! They are infrastructure proven to make cities safer for ALL ROAD USERS. Whatever way cyclists have wronged you is irrelevant to the discussion!

Every conversation about bike lanes is like: "Car crashes kill a huge number of people every day, including pedestrians, cyclists, & car occupants. Good bike infrastructure has been shown to make everyone safer (& doesn't increase congestion)." "But sometimes cyclists break rules & hit people!"

"You were riding in the morning, or at night, or on a quiet road, or a main road. The only time and place to ride a bike is a time beyond time and a place beyond place, where the space-time continuum is bent so strangely that you are both everywhere and nowhere." buff.ly/bSa1Wm5

This is a triggering image of a museum display in the natural history museum in DC about life before smartphones. Me and a fellow 40+ person were laughing at how we are now LITERAL MUSEUM PIECES. MY teen was like did you have a clear phone? An address book? A book of maps. Yes, yes I did. 🫠🫠🫠

Underappreciated aspect of The L Word theme song is prominently featuring angel’s trumpets overhanging the iconic pool. Implying that these lesbians are having full psychotic breaks as a result of accidental prolonged exposure. Which actually explains a lot about The L Word

The “best” thing about genAI (the quotes are doing heavy work here) is that it’s really lowered the bar on getting into hand-made art. Literally anything you make is better than ai. There’s never been a better time to throw away your fear and start learning that craft you’ve always wanted to learn.

*standing up on the plane* okay so the first thing you need to consider when interrogating if Frodo and Sam from Lord of the Rings are an example of romantic love is to understand Tolkien's context; what did same sex love mean to an academic and a veteran of world war one in the middle of the 20th c

After strong public opposition, three Seattle City Councilmembers are backing a new proposal to fund universal school meals for Seattle students starting this fall. The shift comes one day after the council voted to delay the program by a year. Read here: soseaem.org/4fgmFFg #SeattleNews

btw AMR is the ONLY councilmember who has pointed out that we could easily take this $3m out of SPD funds and they wouldn't even notice. That is literally the whole debate and every single one of them has elided that fact but one
