A ballot initiative that sought to direct 25 percent of Portland’s Clean Energy Fund toward hiring additional police officers failed to gather enough valid signatures to qualify for the November ballot.

One benefit of a simultaneous wildfire smoke and heatwave situation is that the smoke may slightly mitigate high temperatures. And one benefit of living in hell is that you get to write unique sentences like the one before this.
