Really weird to me how incredibly rich white men get to say stuff like "in three to four years we'll be achieving nuclear fusion from honey" and the stock markets go "wow, sounds great bro!" and the news just reports it with maybe a paragraph at the end of "critics say this is unlikely".

RIP, EA: its output will now be tainted by association with a despot's son-in-law and the royal whitewashing fund of a guy who had a journalist chainsawed into pieces. I have minimal hope gamers will avoid EA now, but it's moot: private equity will kill it faster than any boycott.

Well, I guess Electronic Arts belongs to Saudi Arabia, private equity, and Jared Kushner now. https://kotaku.com/electronic-arts-officially-belongs-saudi-arabia-jared-kushner-now-2000721666

bit the bullet on continually rising component prices and finally bought a replacement computer for my 13 year old desktop and 6 year old laptop. the discord has been having a lot of fun with the fact the people who built it have routed the fans directly to the PSU so they're just maxed out 24/7.

look, if fear of having everyone on the internet celebrate your death by bringing up every bad thing you’ve done is what it takes to stop people being cunts while they’re alive, i say let’s give it a go

I don’t care if you like its cultural output. The BBC has been a major player in the immiseration of this country, in the persecution of trans people, immigrants, muslims, travellers and disabled people, in the spread of dangerous rhetoric about climate change and vaccines. It must be dismantled.

thinking about this in relation to ken jennings and hank green and the "why did they just turn into shitty people?" question. well morrisey has been a bigot since 1986. people quickly pointed out jennings had made ableist jokes in the past. it's not a change, people just let them get away with stuff

My beef with Morrissey runs all the way back to 1986 when he said this about Black artists. Nineteen Eighty Six, while the Smiths were still active. It’s not a “later phenomenon” don’t try and lie to me www.standard.co.uk/culture/musi...

1986 — "Reggae, for example, is to me the most racist music in the entire world. It's an absolute total glorification of black supremacy... I don't have very cast iron opinions on black music other than black modern music which I detest. I detest Stevie Wonder. I think Diana Ross is awful. I hate all those records in the Top 40 - Janet Jackson, Whitney Houston. I think they're vile in the extreme... Obviously to get on Top Of The Pops these days, one has to be, by law, black," he told Melody Maker.

the irony of publishing a report saying these groups are funded by outside actors and misrepresenting themselves as rights groups- right before being blackmailed by an outside actor and saying that these groups are actually rights groups

So the key findings of Amnesty's report was that these anti-rights groups have massive funding, that it comes largely from far-right christian groups in the US, and that they're abusing UK charity law to misrepresent themselves as pro-rights organisations.
