i think a lot of well-meaning people fall into a rhetorical trap where they take the bait and argue about male vs. female performance in sports rather than arguing for the value and dignity of women’s athletics generally. don’t let yourself be dragged into a bad faith framing.

the best HS teams in the country have multiple guys who will be in the NBA in a couple of years. they aren't normal high schools, they're basketball factories. but this literally doesn't matter. the value of women's sports isn't contingent on their performance vis a vis men.

Wacom recently asked me to talk about why I make queer comics, and given there are multiple bills right now floating around in congress that are effectively "we will kill your livelihood if we get a sniff of queer" I had some pretty strong, simply feelings to relay.

My neighbor across the street got burglarized and he said the cops literally said "we're on to these guys" after saying "they've hit 20 houses in the area" and then he asked why they were able to hit 20 houses if the cops were "on to these guys" and that was the end of the investigation lol

It’s so funny when people are like “sure you’re an abolitionist now but wait until you’re the victim of a property crime.” Buddy, the most useful thing the police have ever done for property crime is put the form you need to submit to your insurance online.

I love Prince of Darkness because it allows John Carpenter to play with the idea of ultimate evil as both physical and biblical at the same time. We are lured toward its various vessels, whether it's the snake in Eden, the swirling liquid in the cylinder, or the unknowable depths behind the mirror.

Visited the new Chicago Brand Museum today. It's fascinating. (It's not a museum of just Chicago brands; it's a museum of lots of brand, which happens to be located in Chicago.) Fans of typography, graphic design, package design, and more will love it.

The most frustrating thing about this "debate" is that we already live in the world right-wingers say they want: Vanishingly few trans people play sports; medical providers require long assessments before transition. You cannot appease bigots because their stated concerns are not based in reality.

Throwing trans people under the bus is morally wrong and it would not do a goddamn thing to help Democrats, it would just demoralize the base even more. Precisely zero anti-trans bigots are ever going to vote Dem. None. Not a single one.

Concerns over fake phenomena cannot be held in good faith. There's no such thing as "good faith" concern over razorblades in Halloween apples or vaccines causing autism. If you still have 'concerns' about these issues you are uninformed, a bigot or being manipulated. No other option.
