Reality for Palestinians is like how Hollywood's science fiction dystopias depict an alien invasion. We're not supposed to feel sympathy for alien invaders. Why are we supposed to feel sympathy for Israel? Or the United States, for that matter, which does exactly the same thing to many countries.

My first poem I've ever subbed just received a tiered rejection, hooray for this gross little poem! I'm excited to see which home it finds.
Almost two years ago I set up #blackademics as part of #blacksky so that faculty of African descent had a place to be in community with one another. As the academic years begins I want to renew my call for us to be in conversation here, to use the space @rude1.blacksky.team has provided. 1/
you can just say you don’t wanna live in a world managed solely by vigilante justice few people do! you don’t have to do sophistry to get there!
so the thing about this scenario is that there are different people involved
The guy who opened fire at Comet Pizza because he'd cooked his brain online and believed they were a child sex trafficking hub was exactly as confident the people he was aiming at deserved it as Luigi Mangione, which is just one reason it's a bad idea to lionise vigilante murder.
Not a dunk: if it’s for rich kids it’s not on your supermarket shelves
Saw someone refer to Bonne Maman jelly as something for rich kids, and I need folks to update their stereotypes and understanding of the shelf price situation. Bonne Maman isn’t rich, it’s midgrade now.
also, even if you have a will, please update it periodically. my grandfather has had two more grandchildren since he updated his and we KNOW emotionally that he would have wanted us all to be in there equally, but it's complicated to get that on paper after somebody has been diagnosed as incompetent
if I can offer an advice it's that everyone should make advanced directives--now, asap, even if you're young--about what you would want at end of life, in terms of medical care, funeral stuff. like it's okay if you end up changing it over time but just leave some kind of guide for your loved ones
If you say you wanna see estrogen sold in vending machines then everyone assumes you're joking, but in a bunch of countries you can legit just buy estrogen at regular normal pharmacies without a prescription or anything and it's fine. It's nbd. It causes zero problems. It isn't even newsworthy.
I do not miss unwarranted advice on time management from people who can't manage their own time.
still holding onto this feeling a month later to get through stressful times. it could be worse. i could gently ask the person i'm assisting that she do more of her job instead of giving it to me and she could answer "oh yeah i was an assistant once time management was so hard for me too"
what's been nice about leaving a junior level in a toxic industry and working at a place where all my colleagues consider each other equals is that, when micromanaging and fake deadlines are removed, you no longer have to answer the worst people's emails first and enable their entitlement
Update: they finally admitted error and are removing the ads. High five to everyone who made noise about this. www.inc.com/esther-lian/...

The fitness giant pulled an ad that sparked backlash for reinforcing stereotypes about Asian women. Here's what it's doing now.

You have discovered a planet. A being lives there that moves like a bison with shrimp skin. It is too far, yet near. Perhaps one day we will thrive there.
If you haven't already, can you please take a minute to sign this demand for a public inquiry into the role of the media in Prof. Arday's death? Thanks so much. Jason Arday: Demand a public inquiry now | Good Law Project share.google/yglZz4Gw42RJ...

At some point I need places like Bulwark and the people who read them to understand The hypocrisy is the point. The constant need to expose yourself to prove lies aren’t true is the point . Debunking just becomes agreeing that SOME people should always have to do extra
Kalshi is not the only force turning American politics into gambling addiction!
“An 85-year-old retiree in Oxford, Ohio made more than 7,800 donations totaling over $648,000 to Democratic causes, more than double the estimated value of his home.”
American media's obsession with elite colleges that educate a tiny fraction of the country makes sense when you understand it's the underpinning of our class system (which we pretend we don't have).
there's a reason "the bell curve" was very popular in dc and ny and people like andrew sullivan made their names on it: they believe black people are stupid. everything flows from that
many "centrists" agree with Cofnas and when they complain about "wokeness" and "political correctness" they often mean that they are not allowed to express this stupid idea — that black people in smart-guy jobs shouldn't be there and should be like, sprinters and jazz musicians instead — explicitly
“ONE DAY WE WILL BE GONE AND THE LIFE THAT SURVIVES US WILL QUICKLY FORGET THAT WE WERE EVER THERE” Magazine cover commission drawn in procreate.
Hot tip for art thieves: find buyers before you steal art! Or else you'll steal it, find that no collectors are stupid enough to buy hot masterpieces, and live in a state of increasing state of panic before a sting operation catches your ass. Today's case in point: www.nytimes.com/2026/08/14/w...
Five Arrested in Connection to Stolen Works by Cézanne, Renoir and Matisse, Prosecutors Say
The Italian military police said that art collectively valued at more than $10 million had been found five months after being taken in a nighttime heist near Parma.

I think the very reasonable rule "center those most marginalized" gets interpreted in Discourse circles as "you have to be the most marginalized person in the room to be worth hearing," and that's a quick hop, skip and a jump to ignoring or dismissing other people's abuse so you can be first in line
This parallels something I've been thinking about men who are into "looksmaxxing:" They say they do it to get women, but ugly guys get gfs all the time. What the looksmaxxers want is to be SO hot that they can get women _easily_, without putting forth effort, care, or consideration.
Plenty to reflect about re: the Arday affair, but I'm going to repeat this one thing. The playbook the right used here is effective even though it's not especially sophisticated, as it relies on the audience to do the dirty work. I've been calling it "Trojan horse propaganda", let's go with that. 1/
Stavros Halkias: I don't wanna do the both sides bullshit because it's not true. One side is worse than the other, objectively speaking. One side is disappearing people and one side wants children to have healthcare. A lot of stand up comics happened to have some of the dumbest opinions on Earth

FRIENDS IN THE NYC AREA: Okay, this is a tough one, but please bear with me. My wife's lifelong friend has stage 4 pancreatic cancer and is desperately seeking a home for his two cats when that time comes. The elder, Wally, is something like 13 years old and DELIGHTFULLY dim. The younger, Doris,
