Is everyone aware of the General Motors streetcar conspiracy? In the mid-20th century, auto and oil interests bought up electric streetcar systems across the US and systematically replaced them with bus routes and paved roads, funneling commuters toward private cars.

But a 4-ton living room on wheels, capable of doing 110mph is nothing to be concerned about, despite current car culture killing >44k people per year in the US.

A 25mph max car is a road hazard and should be banned from American roads.

This is an interesting spin on blame inversion because if someone considers this car unsafe, it's because of dangerous roads that allow people to travel at high speeds and giant cars which endanger everyone.

In addition to being illegal and immoral, this is also how you get increasingly radicalized and disruptive protests. If an entirely legitimate and peaceful protest gets punished anyway, no reason not to go further.

And this is precisely why I bike with extreme paranoia on Marshall or Summit Ave. All it takes is one person at the wrong time to be careless (who amongst). Not a fun way to bike, and not a solution. Bike lanes next to parking are not sufficient

The City Council has been receiving form letters for weeks from anti summit folks. A prominent line, written by Richard Arey, proclaims: “Myth 4: SART will eliminate the danger of bicyclists being “doored.” FALSE! Getting “doored” almost never happens but wide bike lanes make it even less likely.”

We need to stop dedicating a disproportionate amount of public space on busy streets like lyndale and Hennepin to new bike lanes. Living near the re-done Hennepin, I rarely see bikes use the new bike lanes, but they greatly hamper both traffic flow and parking. Most people bike near the lake anyway.

Just in: America’s Independence Day Parade in DC has been CANCELED, per the National Park Service. It was set to step off tomorrow, July 4, at 10:30am along the National Mall.

Climate change cancelling the 250th celebrations is too obvious. Should be like a 200ft lizard or a telepathic race of aliens.

We need to stop dedicating a disproportionate amount of public space on city streets to cars. I rarely see drivers driving on many streets, but the tax payer subsidized “free” car parking & dangerous car driving greatly hampers traffic flow & safety. Most people drive on the highway anyway.
