Every book that I have purchased that wasn't because of my own review has been a rec from either an author or another reader on Bluesky since joining. Literally all of them. And I'd say posts from authors themselves have been 75% of those purchases. So keep posting about your books readers are

I am not first and will be far from the last to say this: I have purchased so many books because I saw them recommended or publicized here on bsky. I cannot urge you all enough to KEEP TALKING ABOUT BOOKS. I know it's easier to talk up someone else's book, but this also means you, the shy author.

It absolutely feels like authors are the people in this process everyone wants to steal from, which is hilarious given we are largely the people with the least money.

If you're wondering why authors are getting so rabid here: First Anthropic stole our books. Then we got denied compensation because of US unjust copyright law and publishers failing to meet their contractual obligations. Then publishers and agents apparently claimed author shares. Now this.

@courtneymilan.com I just pulled this from a post over on Facebook, felt like it might be info worth sharing...

From Laura Resnick:

"Absolutely furious right now.

The Anthropic settlement admin, in the huge AI copyright infringement case, is sending claimants information about claim disputes, disagreements or confusion over allocation of the settlement funds, etc.

Someone using the name "Stephen Edgington" is claiming 100% ownership and 100% of the settlement $ for more than 20 of my copyrighted books. I've never heard of this person, and I'm the sole copyright holder in every instance. So I have to upload my copyright documentation for every damn book to refute his fraudulent claim."

I will add pressure to this by saying that any company that claims to not hold onto your personal data after verifying you? They're lying. Ive been nitro free since the first time they tried this, voice how you feel with your wallet people. Make them really feel that squeeze.

If you haven't heard about this yet, it's an understatement to say it could be transformative. Hear how as a collective they are transforming how Black creators, local communities, and comic fans can build power and change the culture in the industry. Amazing stuff.

I think we are, alas, also going to have to request that in cases in which a known bad actor files a request should create a reason to make that person provide proof of ownership in ALL instances, not just the disputed ones.
