sorry folks but one of the many awful, terrible things about politics is that you do sometimes have to reward politicians, even those you don’t like much, with high-value liver treats for actually doing what you want them to do

This is a cute picture of Thomas, but what I want you to look at is the orange comforter. See? It's very orange. We THINK it's from JCPenney's originally, but we don't know for sure. Most importantly, it's old and well-loved, and dying. I need to find a new one, same comforter, to replace. Help?
seriously, they seem to be passing that particular test just fine right now
It gets an actual chuckle out of me seeing people on here say "now the TRUE test is whether the shitlibs can live up to their own words and line up behind El-Sayed!" only for Stevens, Whitmer, every prominent Michigan Dem, the DSCC, etc. to have endorsed El-Sayed before they can finish the sentence.
correct are you serious about beating fascism or not? get in, we’re beating them in november you can be mad, you can be disappointed, but at the end of the day having someone with D in any and all seats is better than having someone with an R in them
I meant to post this last night but if you’re mad about any of the primary results you got 24 hours to bleed, try not to say anything you’ll regret in 48, and then it’s Blue No Matter Who.
In 1986, contracting HIV meant you were going to die, usually slowly, painfully, and alone. Now it's a chronic illness like hypertension. In 1986, gay and lesbian couples couldn't have their relationships legally recognized and had to adopt elaborate legal workarounds.
Food, man. Food is so much better than it was in 1986. All of it. Poor-people food, restaurant food, fresh food, frozen food. Food is just a hell of a lot better.
Dem voters, as far as I can tell, have two priorities: 1. Win the election 2. Fight the Trump admin as hard as possible in cases where they are worried that the two conflict, they lean towards “win” via whatever bizarre view of electability has penetrated their personal information bubble
I have no idea if this is what's going on or not but the results tonight are all consistent with my broad belief that Democratic primary voters are scared to death of losing again and as much as they like left/progressive ideas they are fucking terrified of losing again
Lego silliness I couldn’t resist making after seeing the poster at Legoland showing the brick separators as scary space monsters to Legokind.
Yes, this - it’s important to keep listening to the folks we’re trying to support and make sure we’re actually helping.
A PSA to my fellow cis people who are (or want to believe they are) trans allies If you are getting pushback from trans people and your reaction is to be all “no! not me! I’m one of the good ones!” please remember that “being one of the good ones” is something you DO, not something you ARE
Bluesky is a "liberal bubble" because fascist chuds can't get traction without algorithmic assistance and because people here trained themselves to block "debate me" trybois the instant they roll up
Bluesky's new CEO Toni Schneider on the platform's reputation for being a liberal bubble: "Yes, we definitely want that to change. It is already changing. It certainly wasn’t designed to attract one specific group of people."
Imagine being a 12 year-old girl, forced to allow a male sports doctor to "examine" your genitals to determine whether you can play softball. Horrifying.
An initiative on the ballot in Washington state in November would require all athletes seeking to play girl's sports from kindergarten to high school to undergo "genetic screening, a testosterone-levels test, or an examination of their reproductive anatomy" before they can play

I think "AI" plumpers should be happy I'm focusing mostly on the nonsense it's doing to my field, rather than how it's very clearly designed as a tool for the capture of wealth and capital by a bunch of accelerationist weirdos enthusiastically huffing their own farts from the depth of their K-holes
Sci-fi authors Scalzi and Stross decry AI's dystopian impact on their craft
I have no idea what to do with this Covid revisionism. It feels like the bad kind of group therapy where you help each other ignore facts. We don't have to go *that* far back in the social media timelines to prove how fucked up it was. We were so scared we were scrubbing eggs and baking the mail.
one: bye two: the main problem with the modern Democratic Party is that, by definition, it basically includes everyone who is not a Trumper - which is why the DSA has been correctly prioritizing primaries this means you’re in a big tent with people you think are dipshits but you gotta deal
"I am not going to be in the same party with Hasan Piker ... if he becomes a force in the Democratic Party, I am out of here," James Carville says on Fox this morning. Reminder: The Left Insurgency airs tonight on CNN at 8p ET.
wait the discourse today is covid lockdowns again? no, absolutely not, I am not doing this, you all have fun
Okay, but that's because you cannot evaluate the efficacy of activism in the near term, and anyone who insists that you do wants you to fail.
I haven’t read the piece so I’m not going to back it or critique it but I will just note Alex Pretti ended up dead and nothing changed near term. Doesn’t change my view of him (he was a hero) but feels relevant as a way to evaluate efficacy.
they really thought they could use bigotry to animate the base but like, mostly just for SHOW because if you actually do most of the things they said they wanted to do, the economy would collapse. and they raised a generation who wants to do the bigotry more than the stocks.
They don’t understand that it’s their ideology that birthed these incompetent idiots. People have been predicting this for decades.
INTO THE DROWNING DEEP by Mira Grant is only $2 in US eBook format today! That's less than half the cost of a cup of decent coffee for hours and hours of meticulous marine biology research leading you to the horrors of the deep!
A core reason why you need to enforce anti-corruption rules at the top of government is because they set the tone for everyone else. If the leaders of the federal government are blatantly, wildly corrupt, everybody else looks at that and goes “so why should I follow the rules of they don’t?”
ethics rules for my wife, a community college teacher: ironclad. strictly enforced ethics rules for government: what? lol makes me the joker every time she tells me about turning away a thankful/appreciative student gift because hey, that's quite against the law!

Add in banning PBMs from restricting which pharmacies you can fill your prescriptions at and I would actually be willing to destroy my inbox again for the next decade by donating money
Your doctor should decide what care you need - not a dude behind a desk or worse, an AI robot. It's time to ban prior authorization.
Me either. My faith in humanity took a huge hit from this.
man I will just never get over the fact that the collective response to the pandemic, and an absolutely miraculous vaccine development, was to destroy public health in this country and smear everyone involved I generally take a positive view of humanity overall but it's so depressing
This is not about the OP, but honestly, I think the constant harping on "no do THIS not THAT as a consumer" is designed to make you give up on climate. This is a job for good old fashioned government, one that regulates pollution, including greenhouse gases.
I'm getting dietary fatigue at this point. This is an OLD reality, but the solutions aren't as straightforward as some of the coverage would have you believe. www.theguardian.com/environment/...
THIS. I use machine learning techniques in statistics (I nerded out in a meeting earlier re how cool random forest models are). But like anything, they are TOOLS, and thus prone to bias, incorrect setup/usage, and still need people controlling every step and doing the interpretation.
Nobody wants predictive data models to stop working for the people in medicine. Or translating ancient Pompeii texts. Or the other ways we were already using it. We want it to stop replacing workers, killing the environment, and stealing from artists. Hope that clarifies.
one thing that infuriates me so much about this shit is that they act as if the women making the allegations are being massively rewarded for their actions when in fact most of what they face for coming forward is being called liars and harassed by assholes like them
matt stoller fully embracing his role as sexual assault denialist
“We’re a small business and simply can’t trash all this inventory” was a reasonable part of an apology for doing a Harry Potter partnership in like 2020 when they may have signed the licensing deal before it was really obvious Joanne was a monster but in 2026 it’s honestly pathetic.
This is there new response.
Rowling has gone insane. And not fun insane, supervillain insane. And if her hate target were anyone but trans people, she would already be a pariah on the level of like Neil Gaiman.
"Who in their right mind would suggest photographing women in the bathroom to see if they're transgender?" She's not in her right mind. And we need to stop pretending she is.
Writers, never again worry if your writing is clunky as your villains explain their evil plots openly and brazenly to the people they're hurting. Villains apparently LOVE to tell everyone what they're doing.
