Strickfaden replied that he had all the equipment in his garage and would loan it to them for $1,000. Brooks paid him $2,500 and also made sure that Strickfaden's name, which was not in the credits for 1931 Frankenstein, was included in the credits for Young Frankenstein.

When filming Young Frankenstein in the 70’s, Mel Brooks tracked down the original designer for the 1931 Frankenstein (Kenneth Strickfaden) with the intention of politely asking the old man to do a quick consultation on the lab equipment to try to reasonably replicate it...

It’s come to something when a photographer has to get legal advice, before displaying this photo in an exhibition, due to the risk of being prosecuted as a terrorist, but that’s exactly what I had to do yesterday. What a state this country is in.

As a white kid in a liberal state, my childhood education in public school on civil rights was extremely reverent of MLK jr, and mentioned Malcolm X as “this other guy who believed in violence anyway let’s move on.” And my adulthood has been a process of unpacking who made that curriculum and why.

Martin Luther King was much more successful than Malcolm X for example. Before that, there was no need for a bloody civil war in most countries that abolished slavery. Just votes. Independence can also be bloodless. Gandhi in India, Walesa in Poland, Mandela in South Africa. The list is long.

Lots of people rightly asking Sandy, Senior Editor at Bloomberg, what happened to Martin Luther King, Jr., but it's worth looking at the second sentence and noticing how slavery was famously abolished in the United States and Haiti specifically via *necessary* bloody civil war/revolution

Key findings: this is what @lucympowell.bsky.social is doing to trans children. She is a bully who is deliberately and needlessly harming CHILDREN. She should be removed, she is unfit to be Education Secretary or to work with any children.

Key findings:
• Toilets and changing rooms are the most raised issue. Pupils describe gender neutral toilets being removed, staff standing outside toilets, changing in corridors, and deliberately not drinking during the school day.
• Fear of being outed is the most frightening.
Pupils with transphobic parents say they can no longer confide in teachers, and some have already been outed.
• Young people are leaving school. Parents and pupils describe moves to online learning, home education and long absences.
• Many pupils are now too scared to come out at all, and several describe suicidal crises.
• Staff are caught in the middle. Teachers, including trans staff, say they have been made to sign up to guidance they believe conflicts with their safeguarding duty.
• Pupils often point to adults, not peers.
Several pupils say classmates did not care until an adult made an issue of it.

“Dutch people cycle an average of 2.6km each per day. If this pattern was replicated worldwide, annual carbon emissions would drop by 686 million tonnes. This mammoth figure exceeds the entire carbon footprint of most countries, including the UK, Canada, Saudi Arabia and Australia.” @euronews.com

Cycling like the Dutch would slash the world’s carbon footprint

If everybody cycled like the Dutch, we could offset the UK or Australia’s entire carbon footprint.

A pro-life white woman ruling that a law officer was justified in killing a Black baby seated in his mother’s lap, shooting her as well because of suspicion of stealing diapers is as accurate of a summation of how the US has historically wielded its institutions against Blackfolk as I can think of.

JUST IN: The police shooting that killed 1-year-old Kohen Wiley as he sat in his mother’s lap in a Walmart parking lot in Senatobia, Miss., in June “was justified,” Mississippi Attorney General Lynn Fitch’s office said on Monday. Her office will not charge the white officer who shot the child.

1) It is good that this woman is now changing her mind and potentially voting the right way 2) These conversations are fundamentally flawed as long as they don't come with a "okay, so what did you learn about the mistake you made and the information that led you there and how will you change that"

3-time Trump voter who lost her job from DOGE: The betrayal is pretty significant. Come time for presidential elections, it's gonna warrant a conversation of what party we vote for. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.

It’s Libby Purves babbling about “thousands of men of fighting age” here, by the way. They just drop that kind of chat like it’s nothing, now. It’s hard to explain just how drastically your average panel zombie has radicalised in the last decade, particularly in the last five years.

But how about crime? You've got to consider crime. I think a sense of rising crime in your area is really, really important.
You know, you can't, you can be feeling as rich as you like. You can be living little Pittington on the Vaux Wall or whatever.
But if somebody puts, you know, a couple of thousand men of fighting age, single and angry next to you, then you're going to be frightened.

This week, the lads ask whether Britain might see riots like the ones in France. Hosts and guests talk at length about the terrors of immigration, and it doesn’t occur to any of them that Britain has in fact seen years of sustained rioting, arson and fighting with police by the far right.
