Long Covid, MECFS, ADHD, etc. Patient-led research is my jam. A bit obsessed with GIP.

in case anyone hasn't followed how this works if someone they disagree with has any reasonable financial security, however justly earned, they'll say well well shouldn't you be poor if you criticize the system, but if they are poor, then they say why should anybody listen to someone so unsuccessful

having helped many people get into games careers with few exceptions my main feeling about that is guilt, which is also why I pivoted long ago from better paying work focused on that to mainly helping hobbyists. gamedev rules. game industry does not. like music is much bigger than the music industry

listened to a podcast dissecting tradwife content, wryly aware that I would be just as susceptible to back-to-the-land propaganda if it were being sold to me by nonbinary butches with cute dogs

The reason JKR is suddenly saying more and more “moderate” seeming things is not because her views are “moderate”, you daft shits. It’s because she is registering that her extremely overtly transphobic points are now making her very unpopular.

No would ever ever say the vile things she has, made the cruel jokes she has, if it was just about concern. Much as when people are shitty about fat people and then claim concern about health. If you truly are concerned why are you being a bastard to people you think are unwell?

Reading reactions to the overdetermined and underbaked after-action on the OpenAI Hugging Face hack, and everyone's all concerned about how none of the AI agents ever thought to alert anyone else as to what they were doing, which is read as being some sinister, anti-human omertà, a conspiracy of AI—

“The Berkeley International Office announced Wednesday that it will pause international students’ applications for Course Credit Curricular Practical Training “for the foreseeable future.”

For at least the MEDIA establishment, there is no bottom too low because the owners of the outlets agree with Trump on the core issues ("nonwhites bad, trans people bad, patriarchy good"), even if a small handful of them find his affect uncouth

For many years I wondered, "how bad will Republicans have to get before the media/political establishment in the US gets over its endless obsession with scolding & tone policing the left?" I think at this point we have to acknowledge that the answer is: never. Literally never.

Jonathan Kirkpatrick, who was incarcerated alongside Don Snook for around 17 years, says he is one example of someone who no longer needs to be in prison. “If they let him go, he wouldn’t be a very productive member of society, but not destructive either. He’d just sit with his plants on a porch.”

‘We Are Such a Punitive Country’: America’s ‘Death by Incarceration’ Machine

America’s prison population is aging into disability and disease. Understaffed clinics and delayed treatments turn serving life into a death sentence: as the system breaks down, the logic behind…

"Here’s an opportunity to move past the job-training consensus that has left our universities stripped threadbare and too driven by trends and vibes. But I promise you, students want real educations and will come for them, rather than be forced to listen to a CEO tell them that capitalism rocks."

Perry: Republicans fought ‘indoctrination.’ Now they’re telling students what to study.

The conservative attack on higher education in states like Iowa is hard to watch. But it also provides an opportunity for blue states like Minnesota.

ALTHO last time, when the gulf of mexico got vandalized in google maps, I deleted google maps before I grasped that this was the mechanism and it has really improved my life to not have its stupid overoptimized driving directions leading me astray, I recommend it!

re: everyone yelling about Google Maps - Maps just ingests the official data source for each country, which is GNIS in this case, and most other online maps will follow for American users nobody at Google is making an active decision to go in and change names in Maps directly
