Seattle. Every intersection is a crosswalk.

Imagine Barbara Bailey Way not as a queue for idling, often speeding, vehicles but as a permanent place for people walking and rolling between Cal, light rail, and the small businesses that hug the plaza. COME TO THE LOW POLLUTION OPEN HOUSE THIS SUNDAY 09/27.

@centralseattlestreetsforall.org has been out talking with neighbors about an exciting opportunity to pedestrianize Barbara Bailey Way. Let’s be sure to show up this Sunday and express that! Put it in your phone calendar or, if you’re a wall calendar girlie like me, mark it for Sunday Sept 27 1-4 pm

Pedestrianizing Barbara Bailey Way, that stretch bordering the north end of Cal Anderson park where the Sunday Famers Market sets up, would be an easy way to improve the neighborhood. If you’re already there for your market goods on 9/27, stop in and tell @transportation.seattle.gov we want this.

To the gentleman driver who absolutely lost it when I gave him a thumbs down for turning into the bikelane against a NTOR,screamed at me to go fuck myself, then sped up behind to scare me, have a pleasant day. Violent people driving cars is having an absolute moment right now.

Large non-market vehicles not only crowd out limited space on Pike Place, they also use valuable curb space on 1st Ave that could be used for business and customer access. Not to mention these large vehicles towering over storefronts, making it harder for people to discover Market businesses.

Questioner asks if tour buses drive in the market. Says he has never seen a tour bus in the market. Fact Check: bsky.app/profile/qagg...

Until we’re brave enough to just build a place where general car traffic can’t go, join me in walking in the middle of pike place mon-thurs starting in October!

We need a police chief who understands that traffic safety is public safety. It’ll be ideal also if they can help some local media outlets 👀 @seattletimes.com 👀 see why bold moves to improve public transportation and speed up Vision Zero projects is actually newsworthy.

Mayor Wilson: “We Want Your Input! Tell Us What You Want to See in Seattle’s Next Police Chief” Have at it! forms.cloud.microsoft/pages/respon...

The Yale slip lane is now permanently closed, with Boren handling all I-5 traffic! We had a great time meeting the SDOT crew and can't wait to see the improvements this will bring for the L8! We'll head back down later today to share some more photos after everything is fully installed.

“For years, @gordonofseattle.bsky.social, executive director at Seattle Streets Alliance, heard that it wasn’t possible to build a bus lane on Denny Way. “The Harrell administration said bus lanes on Denny were impossible,” he said, “and now we have bus lanes on Denny.” That’s leadership

Wilson said she’s trying to make the right decisions for the city, but admits the balancing of her time, priorities and projections is still a work in progress.

Seattleites: if you, like me, have relied on @thestranger.com for election recommendations in the past, please be aware that those recommendations have been enshittified, likely due to changes in the paper's ownership. Use the Urbanist recommendations instead:

"I don't want people to leave here thinking Councilmember Kettle and I don't support transit" - Councilmember Rivera If you don't want voters to think that, perhaps don't propose slashing the mayor's proposed transit expansion plan 🤷🏻‍♂️. Their amendment fails, 7-2.

"I don't want people to leave here thinking that somehow Councilmember Kettle and I don't support transit," Rivera says, ahead of voting for an amendment that would halt the city's continued investment in public transit.

Here at 12th Ave and Alder again using a pedestrian “refuge” @seattledot.bsky.social says is completed project. They checked a box. But they’ve known for a long time drivers can’t see the flashing beacons and that drivers speed on 12th because they’re encouraged to.

And yet when we push electeds to address dangerous driver behavior with better infra for people outside cars, some of the loudest voices against safer streets cite the “selfish,” “entitled,” or “special interests” of a few as if driving a car recklessly through a city isn’t somehow entitled.

There's a particularly busy intersection I often go through on morning rides and it really is bananas to see the unhinged stuff drivers do while I'm there for a minute at the light: Running reds, speeding through yellows, dangerous passing, tailgating, road rage. All normalized and barely noticed.

Thank you, @seattledot.bsky.social for the new crosswalk paint around 12th Ave/Pike/Pine corridor. and Without real, structural updates along 12th Ave from Beacon Hill to north Capitol Hill, people who walk, bike, and roll will continue to face dangerous driving (and parking) habits of drivers.
