Just waiting to cross MLk at the light at a Graham, two different people passed me biking along the sidewalk. Imagine how many people would bike if we actually had biking infrastructure in Rainier Valley. Could we start with bike counters on both sidewalks, Seattle DOT?

Something needs to be done about the broken bollards in Seattle's bike lanes. Earlier this summer I ran into one on the waterfront which was missing the pole and lost my balance and fell while riding a Lime scooter. I was ok and wearing a helmet at the time.

The recent hysteria over bike and ebike regulation is infuriating, dumb, and counter-productive.

Great thread, and this first point is so real. So much legislation gets watered down before passage. Ideally you want to start at a place where you can afford to have the bill get watered down and still have it be achieving something worthwhile.

Some things I've learned about legislative advocacy, and I think my record speaks for itself. 1. Start by asking for everything you want. Stop preemptively negotiating against yourself. The process of passing the bill will whittle it down. Why started with a whittled down product?

I am stopped in the middle of MLK way on a @sound-transit.bsky.social rush hour train because SeattleDOT thinks 4 cars getting across the street should delay 100-200 people on a train. Inefficient, bad experience, and moves people through the city slower.

Seattle's crisis response team leader Amy Barden hasn't met with Police Chief Shon Barnes since Bruce Harrell appointed him in 2024, despite the fact that the two departments are supposed to work together to decide which 911 calls require cops and which require a social work/mental health response.

I think in addition to this one of the real things to watch will be the effectiveness of departments and city functions.

I think watching the Seattle Mayor’s policy agenda get passed through City Council is way more interesting and telling than watching the media circus about the Mayor’s weakness.

Amazing that this is advancing so quickly and without objection given just a year ago everyone was sure renter protections were going to get rolled back big time.
