Programmer, progressive, aspiring antifascist. (he/him/any) Cishet white dude of a certiain age but I try not to be an ass about it Using "lame" disparagingly is ableist.

it took four hours and emails across three agencies to determine if a simple, polite email invitation was legitimate, in case you're wondering whether AI has improved efficiency in my field

Joelle was tortured and murdered by the very people meant to heal her. The UK government is murdering trans + people to appease wealthy transphobes. This is beyond sick and obscene cruelty. She was a young woman. Killed because she was trans 😥😥😥

Hey y'all. So normally I am a reasonably private person despite appearances which makes this sort of humiliating. My life is more or less in the process of burning down. There's a family wedding coming up in 3 weeks. I'd like to go.

Is this your notebook?? It mysteriously appeared in my tote bag. No personal info but the owner seems to live in Brooklyn and is outlining/researching a novel — I’d love to return it to you!

A blue softcover notebook covered in soup-themed stickers, held closed with two cris-crossing rubber bands

There are so, so many verified diaries of white Union soldiers at the beginning of the war saying "I don't know about this, I condemn the deplorable violence" and then they get down there and see slavery with their own eyes and immediately go "John Brown was right we gotta kill these motherfuckers"

And we can certainly condemn his violence. But let’s step back and remember just how horrible slavery was. On December 20, 1858, Brown, who had briefly returned to Kansas, led a party into Missouri to free slaves.

finally had the "we can't buy Harry Potter merch for our son because JK Rowling funds trans genocide" convo with my very offline wife and her immediate response was "okay, no problem. why can't she just mind her business?" because my wife is an amazing human being.

If you would try to win by abandoning trans people (or any targeted group) you can save this “we need to win” talk; there is no “we.” I am about solidarity, and you have chosen anti-solidarity. You are not any “we” I recognize. You are the enemy I’m trying to defeat. Beating you is how my “we” wins.

one of the advantages of writing code by hand is that it forces you to examine your assumptions, to flesh out details, to make your mental model concrete. if you delegate those minutiae to your LLM, you have to do the extra work of understanding them so that you can communicate them.

Your occasional reminder that polls don't mean shit, you have to show up and vote, preferably early and in person if you can

Being GenX/Millennial is such a trip. In our lifetimes, we saw people our age getting wild criminal penalties for pirating music and now have to sit and watch as companies gobble up our work with impunity.

Before accessing the free wifi on this flight I had to watch an ad for a company called "LGT Wealth Management." I was like, "Well, I don't approve of bisexual erasure, but at least they kept the T."

What if we just didn't make fun of what people looked like (or their size, or ability, or hair or clothes or makeup or plastic surgery even or any of that shit) Because actually what matters is what you say and what you do words and actions and their impact on other people

Hi, I’m a sighted alt text user! Here are some reasons I use it: - Slow Internet on an airplane - I’m over 40, I have no idea who that celebrity is - Bluesky broke images again - My vision sucks and that text is too small to read otherwise - Conveys further context and authorial intent
