In other Michigan news, the state looks set to elect it's first transgender lawmaker. Joanna Whaley won her Democratic primary and will compete in November for a state house seat, beating a primary opponent who tried and failed to disqualify her for not running under her deadname

There’s only 6 hours left to vote in today’s primary elections. Only 20% of voters in King County have turned in their ballot so far. Boomers are out voting Gen Z by almost 5 to 1.
Absolute gorgeous and that’s because it doesn’t fit the character or scale of the neighborhood which is a positive thing in architecture

Unrelated, but this reminds me of SDOT’s response under Harrell to the idea of simply downgrading Florentia St. on Queen Anne from an arterial to a neighborhood street…something to the effect of any change having a dramatic cascading impact across the network.
The exact phrasing we were told is that it would “blow up the network”
I have, with my own eyes, watched my tax dollars in the form of missiles as they hit buildings inhabited by civilians. I'd much prefer subsidizing a grocery story I don't use.
Opinion: Mamdani's idea may sound appealing, but it's NYC taxpayers who will take the hit, subsidizing discounts they may never even use.
"Okay it's time to see the TRUE inner workings of a public service operation" *looks* *realizes it's all half-assing and making shit up as we go along with brief mentions to a strategic plan that may as well not exist* *loud, pained scream into paper bag*

Please stop flying your personal drones over wildfires. They can ground or collide with our firefighting aircraft, disrupting time critical firefighting and threatening people’s homes. Your photos are not worth someone’s home. If you fly, we can’t.
america is a face culture that pretends it is not a face culture; trump is a particularly reputation (mas macho) variant of that culture. iran gets that america is a face culture, and that trump's entire schtick is built on never "losing", and acts accordingly.
I don't think the average American and certainly not the average MAGA even gets the extent to which "humiliate your foe" is a core ethos of the Iranian approach to conflict
This is why I call Seth Moulton’s position on trans girls in sports radical and extreme. It would change decade-old laws. It is a horrific invasion of privacy. And it tells girls that politicians have a right to their bodies. In Congress, I will stand for the privacy and dignity of all children.
An initiative on the ballot in Washington state in November would require all athletes seeking to play girl's sports from kindergarten to high school to undergo "genetic screening, a testosterone-levels test, or an examination of their reproductive anatomy" before they can play
Seattle Mayor Katie Wilson has signed the SEPA reform bill into law.

I feel like I'm going crazy. (Well, even crazier.) Discourse seems divorced from reality. We talk about market vibes instead of the actual physical tankers stuck in the strait. We talk about MAHA polling and not the actual polio disease. We talk about gender ideology and not my actual fucking tits.
there's definitely a bunch of polling going around for democrats that basically says "you can do a little slopulism, as a treat." see also: markey and pressley trying to end fees for public transit instead of just increasing service.
Good morning, Seattle! Here’s a little something for our transit riders to help with your morning commute:

The Yale slip lane is now permanently closed, with Boren handling all I-5 traffic! We had a great time meeting the SDOT crew and can't wait to see the improvements this will bring for the L8! We'll head back down later today to share some more photos after everything is fully installed.
Important article and good advice here ahead of what's likely to be a bad smoke week.
Yo Seattle SMOKE INCOMING. Worst likely Wed-Thu. Exposure to wildfire smoke harms your health—don't tough it out. Air purifiers are your friend. Many free apps show you local air quality (AQI). Exerting yourself outdoors when it's high is a bad call. Be safe! emeraldcityweather.com/heat-wildfir...
Just want to check I didn't miss anything. Dow Constantine still hasn't held a press conference about the downtown portion of the system being shut down for 14 hours right?
Is sound transit's CEO Dow Constantine really meeting the moment right now? Where's the communication about the train derailment? How many hours should we expect to be without a press conference to answer our questions?
Simply incredible that we're finally going to fix the L8.
The WNBA has never had a trans woman play in the league’s 30-year history and now the right and other anti-trans activists are hammering the league over something that has never been an issue, proving once again it isn’t about protection but exhibiting cruelty toward trans people.
Car-blindness is real! Psychologists or sociologists should study this. Giant two-ton boxes flying all around us, piloted by people who have been rendered psychopaths, regularly injuring & killing our neighbors, and many/most people just ... don't register it. It's just background noise.
I was talking to my neighbor when a group of cyclists came by at maybe 25 mph. “That’s so dangerous,” she exclaimed. In the meantime, quite a few drivers came by at 40 mph, and she’s completely unfazed. 🤦🏻♂️
Used @electioncheatsheet.org to fill out my ballot today. it was an incredibly convenient way to compare local endorsements, highly recommend!
The Blue Angels didn't fly today because of a little Cascadia wind. We'll take that as a victory.
New York City today. Summer Streets returned to Manhattan for the first of three car-free Saturdays. New Yorkers were able to bike, jog and walk on streets that were closed to traffic.
It's a small thing, I know, but there really is a difference between "palate cleanser" and "palette cleanser," and also, while we are on the subject, "pallet cleanser," and it is worth making the distinction
My normie Democrat mom thinks it's terrible how much the Seattle Times etc is crusading against Wilson. As with the legacy media and Democratic establishment writ large, it's crazy how much the old guard is misreading the support for younger DSA types among ordinary Democrats.
This whole thread. The Times, the TV reporters, and the Council are understating public support for the mayor, are overstating support for their anti-Wilson cause, and are dangerously encouraging insubordination in the ranks.
ICE is conducting its first kidnapping raids in city limits last couple weeks and the mainstream press has been completely preoccupied with meaningless palace intrigue. Great work team.
There are some incredibly tragic stories resulting from ICE actions in West Seattle that aren't in the news. It can be hard to get the 411 on these situations, but I implore people to learn more and support however they can. @waisn.bsky.social is a good place to start
Every time the legacy media tries to whip up some suburb-coded bullshit about Mayor Wilson she should pedestrianize another block. Whenever they get really over-the-top: whoops here's a superblock
