In the month or two before June 2026 pogroms a network of racist anti immigration social media accounts were ramping up in rhetoric and activity, priming their NI followers for violence, waiting for a spark. The past few days has felt similar, with pages sharing increasingly inflammatory content.

Another example from today: I had to brake sharply to avoid being hit by a van on the way back from work, because the driver couldn't be bothered to check if anyone was coming on the cycle lane before he turned. Commuting by bike in Greater Manchester would radicalise almost anyone against cars.

So many drivers value two seconds of their life more than a cyclist's life. Like the guy who close passed me this morning to turn into the Sainsbury's car park literally two seconds earlier than he would've done otherwise. I guess those two seconds were so precious it was worth driving dangerously.

A 65-year old cyclist has died after a road traffic collision on Iffley Road at 11pm yesterday. A 21-year old man has been arrested on suspicion of death causing dangerous driving. Police are appealing for witnesses and dashcam footage of a grey Volkswagen Golf.

Taxman - It sounds like a cross between the Who and Batman. It's a bit limited, but the Beatles get over this by the sexy double-tracking. It's surprising how sexy double-tracking makes a voice sound. Eleanor Rigby - I bought a Haydn LP the other day and this sounds just like it. It's all sort of quartet stuff and it sounds like they're out to please music teachers in primary schools. I can imagine John saying: 'I'm going to write this for my old schoolmistress'. I'm Only Sleeping - It's a most beautiful song, much prettier than 'Eleanor Rigby'. A jolly old thing, really, and definitely the best track on the album. Love You Too - This sort of song I was doing two years ago--now I'm doing what the Beatles were doing two years ago. It's not a bad song--it's well performed which is always true of a Beatles track. Yellow Submarine - This is a load of rubbish, really. I take the mickey out of myself on the piano and play stuff like this. Good Day Sunshine - This'll be a giant. It doesn't force itself on you, but it stands out like I'm Only Sleeping. This is back to the real old Beatles. I just don't think the fans like the newer electronic stuff. The Beatles are supposed to be like the boy next door only better. Got To Get You Into My Life - It just goes to prove that Britain's jazz musicians can't swing. Tomorrow Never Knows - Listen to all those crazy sounds! It'll be popular in discotheques. I can imagine they had George Martin tied to a totem pole when they did this! So, after listening to each track three or four times, the Ray Davies verdict: This is the first Beatles LP I've really listened to in it's entirety but I must say there are better songs on 'Rubber Soul'. A BEATLE view of the Government’s ban-the-pirates plan: “I can’t understand their attitude. Why don’t they make the crummy BBC illegal as well — it doesn’t give the public the service it wants, otherwise the pirates wouldn’t be here to fill the gap. The Government makes sick. This is becoming a Police State. They should leave the pirates alone. At least they’ve had a go, which is more than the BBC has done…” George Harrison’s attitude towards pirate radio was as logical as the Beatles’ thoughts about their new single. “Yellow Submarine” and “Eleanor Rigby,” out this week. It is the first time the group have taken an LP track and issued it as a single. This comes from the new “Revolver” album. “We just thought we may as well put it out instead of sitting back and seeing dozens of cover versions all getting hits,” said George. “Well, we might as well cop the hit as well as anybody else. I believe there are about 93 versions of ‘Good Day Sunshine’ being put out! “Apart from that, we all think it’s a good commercial single. I like them both — ‘YeIlow Submarine’ will appeal to old-age pensioners and that kind of mob, whereas ‘Eleanor Rigby’ will probably only appeal to Ray Davies-types…” Harrison was commenting here on Ray Davies’ review of the Beatles’ new LP in last week’s Disc and Music Echo. But although the Kinks’ leader criticised one or two aspects of the album, he thought the entire production was good. It was ONLY the “Submarine” track that he regarded as a “load of rubbish.” Back to the Beatle: “He’s entitled to his opinion. But I think if Ray Davies met us, he might change his tune. I’m sure he’s more like us. and thinks more alike than he thinks. I think Ray Davies and the Beatles would have plenty in common.” Beatles’ plans bulletin: “Not doing much — we’ve got to go and get beaten up in America in a fortnight.
