Amanda Martin, Labour MP for Portsmouth North, called the hotel incident "deeply concerning". She said: "It's completely unacceptable that misinformation has led to young cricketers visiting our city being wrongly targeted and mistaken for people seeking asylum. "It's also wrong that people who work in the hotels had to deal with this. "Those who arrived in Portsmouth on Sunday were transported outside of Hampshire for processing. "There is a legitimate debate to be had about immigration, but it must be based on facts not misinformation or rumour." The BBC understands the England and Wales Cricket Board has checked on wellbeing of the Pakistani under-19s team, and is reviewing security arrangements for the remainder of their tour.

One of the principles of the Green Party is that you should treat members in "good faith" and assume the best of intentions on their part. It's curious how that expectation of "good faith", honesty and good intentions is immediately tossed aside when a trans woman speaks out.

‼️Statement RE my suspension from the Greens. I was suspended for the 'crime' of being a trans woman who ran for a women's place. The "media interest" in my gender was cited as the sole reason for my suspension.

I can confirm that I have indeed been suspended from the Green Party. The only reason given for my immediate suspension is that I allegedly ‘brought the party into disrepute’ by choosing to run for a reserved female space on Green Party Council as a trans woman. In the Greens, suspensions are not a guilty verdict. I was not found guilty of breaking any rules whatsoever. The only actual disciplinary allegations against me are that I allegedly was rude to people on the internet, and that I ‘gossiped’. I was not suspended for any of this. The only reason given for my IMMEDIATE SUSPENSION was: "EF’s recent election to GPC and the accompanying media interest”. I was suspended just 8 days after being elected, in a secret group chat discussion which included just 13 of the 36 members of GPC. My critics submitted 100 pages of transphobic articles as ‘evidence’, while I was banned from submitting anything in my defence and was not allowed to see the charges. There was no investigation.

90 years ago, Parliament responded to the rise of Oswald Mosley's Blackshirts by passing the Public Order Act, which banned political uniforms, private militias and the threat of force for political objects. The debates make very resonant reading today. Here's the Liberal Robert Bernays. (Short 🧵)

You cannot conduct a fair match when one side is playing with a ball and the other with bombs and, if democracy is to survive, it must be conducted according to definite and recognised rule. One of them is that no political party should resort to any weapon other than reason and argument. The introduction of private armies, as I see it, strikes at the root of democracy. I know it is contended that the Blackshirts are not armed and, therefore, are not an army, but I do not think that argument can be upheld. … Uniformed men in military formation suggest, and are meant to suggest, the idea of force. It is no argument to reply that at this or that demonstration no force is intended. It is an inescapable fact that a uniform in politics symbolises force, to be used either now or in the future.

Transphobia allowed these people to abuse trans women and be cheered for it by the media @mrjamesob.bsky.social. It is a socially acceptable way to abuse women and what you seen at the Reform conference is that spilling out as trans people said it would.

The 'just protecting women' senior figures of Reform have mocked that woman for being attacked, blamed her, told her to 'grow up' and offered to crowdfund to buy her abuser a new cane, presumably damaged after beating a woman around the head.

The man who beat two female protesters with his cane at the Reform conference has been identified as Stephen Cooling - it’s actually there on his conference tag - former UKIP candidate for Erdington and now member of Reform’s Sutton Coldfield branch. Presumably West Mids Police have enough info now
