What's up with all these retro influencers not reading the room and going out of their way to promote warretro crap 🤦
I used to love hanging out in the dev channels, watching smart people solve hard problems. Now it's "I'm not sure if it's accurate but it sounds better to me!" The concern about all the harm AI does just thrown away because now you can tweak a game without knowing anything about it.
Vibe coded shit has become such a huge problem lately and has polluted so many areas related to FPGA, recompilations etc. Nearly every example of this produces broken or poorly performing results. It's happening exactly as I feared.
Siiiigh vibe-coded recomps have come for my beloved Mischief Makers next. There's only one video up of it which doesn't show any of the 3D scenery stages, but the 3D rocks in the intro have broken textures. Emulation used to have that problem decades ago but it emulates perfect these days.
A hidden terribleness about the AI translations of older games that keep popping up lately - in this case Tricolor Crise for the Dreamcast - is the way they knock the wind out of the sails of the people who are trying to actually do it properly. LLM version didn't even use the right character names.
I have been working on this game with a real proper translation for quite some time now. This whole thing has just been a slap to my face for all the time and effort I've put into making something great for this great game. This person gives zero F's about this game; they just chose it because.
This is how I did the intro for Game Sack starting in 2024. I used my iPad Mini to mirror my Mac's desktop and draw in Photoshop with the Apple Pencil. It's animated on 2s which means it runs at 15 frames per second. I didn't want anyone to think this was a filter or AI!
RayForce (aka Layer Section aka Galactic Attack aka Gunlock) is one of my favorite games of all time, and also a cautionary tale about ceding decision making to AI.

starting to think "the ai bubble made us raise prices that never go back down" is just another crack at "The Supply Chain after COVID made us raise prices that never go back down"
someone casually assumed I would be using AI tools on my new game, and I didn't realize how fucking offensive that suggestion was until it was flippantly floated at me I make games; they need to be tight, performant systems. they cannot be "black box" tech. AI is meaningless in this space fuck AI
All uses of AI are costing someone… this sucks as the Game UI database is such a valuable resource.
Okay so this is a bottle in the sea for whoever at Nintendo might see this or something: Please fix #KirbyAirRiders matchmaking. It seems the worldwide setting just doesn't work. I never get matched with japanese players at all it seems, as apparently there are a lot of japanese players.
I recently updated my HDMI switching setup and I'm very happy with the results. It makes it easy to play on either my monitor or the TV, take screenshots with a single button or scale console games through the RetroTINK 4K. 🐇
2025 has been a good year of gaming for me. Here's a tier list of all the games I completed this year. Looking forward to the games I'll experience in 2026.
Again, I'll say: if you've never played a Mystery Dungeon or you've only played spinoffs like Pokemon Mystery Dungeon, there's never been a better, more content and QOL feature-rich Shiren game to start than 6/Serpentcoil. $20 for the base game alone is a steal for all the dungeons it comes with.

If you're using Windows 11, Microsoft is now surveilling you in a new way. This may already be turned on on your computer, and you would not be notified; it activates whenever they detect you are in a "game", which in my experience Microsoft often false-positives on doublepulsar.com/microsoft-bu...

I thought something seemed off about the the image posted below: it's a photo that's been edited and colorized by AI. Please don't do that.

I would have preferred an option to simply switch to the original, pixellated sprites rather than an entire “Classic” version. That or have each sprite completely redone in a more hand drawn, fittingly HD art style. Your mileage may vary. Here is a quick comparison vs my JVC D-Series CRT’s S-Video
