"Independent journalists like @marisakabas.bsky.social uncovering major scoops are something of an existential threat to mainstream media’s business model, because they prove that you don’t need to spend millions of dollars to report the news."

Plagiarizing Independent Journalists Is Part of Mainstream Media's Business

it would be great if we had a democratic party willing to go out and say “this is an insane lie to get you to irrationally hate a minority group trying to just exist peacefully” rather than start throwing us under the bus and twiddling their thumbs

Tommy Tuberville: "We're getting to a point where women and girls sports are getting ready to be extinct. Because already in states across this country, we have high school teams that are made up of totally boys participating against girls." Where is this happening?

this just got a like and it pretty much sums up my thoughts on flash boycotts we think that's how boycotts work bc that's how the powers that be taught us that's how they work it's not true. the civil rights boycotts were highly organized before, during, and after

not teaching about her (and other efforts) also allows the lie to live that rosa parks was just tired and fed up that day, instead of being an activist and member of the NAACP - not to mention her anti-rape work and voters rights, etc it encourages (white) people to believe protest is useless

What's not mentioned in this excerpt is that this was sponsored by Third Way, a think tank that is singlemindedly devoted to convincing Democrats to cut the left out of the party. God knows the DNC has its problems, but it's misleading to frame this as a mainstream Democratic conference.

New: Last month, a group of moderate Democratic consultants, campaign staffers, elected officials & party leaders gathered in Loudoun County, Virginia, for a retreat where they plotted their party’s comeback. We got their takeaways. t.co/bEwlg4jbtM

I see some folks judging disabled people for using Amazon or gig apps like DoorDash or UberEats. Please remember for many of us who are housebound, there’s no viable alternatives. Some conditions may also neccesitate using certain services. 🧵 on MCAS & dietary restrictions /1

This is such a fucking mealy mouthed article that shows so much of what is wrong with political journalism 1. the CONCERN IS DEAD AND SICK PEOPLE NOT 'POLITICAL PERILOUSNESS" 2. they don't fact check RFK's "measles outbreaks happen every year" comment.

With RFK Jr. at his side, a measles outbreak could prove 'politically perilous' for Trump

The health secretary has long pushed misinformation about vaccines and played down an outbreak in Texas that has led to the death of a child.

This thread demonstrates of one of the reasons we do what we do. A great many smart, well-meaning folks have been confused and misled by all the bad-faith questions and faux-concern. They need calm, factual, and dare-I-say objective journalism to figure out what's going on.

So, I am going to be honest with everyone here, over the past couple years I have had a bit of a personal evolution on trans issues. I have come to a place of *unequivocal* support for trans people. I would like to share my thinking as I hope it will prove useful.

A perfect example of the infantilisation of trans men and mascs. They have to pretend adult trans men are “little girls” in order to take away our agency. If they admitted they were talking about adults what they are saying would seem way more paternalistic, and downright creepy!

"Healthy breasts" [Mail] One of the 'girls' mentioned here is 24. Another is 22. Another is 21. The mother of the 24yo is 'livid' and discusses where they would have 'discarded' these breasts. Doesn't seem to care her child is happy. They're all referred to as 'daughters' and 'her'.

Double page spread - The mothers left distraught after the NHS removed their daughters’ healthy breasts because the girls – some of them teenagers – said they were transgender
With the health service referring 1,000 women a year for ‘masculinising’ mastectomies...

Reminder that it’s not just the purchase by private equity, it’s the purchase by private equity *in a leveraged buyout.* Basically, they fund the deal by taking out a loan against the company they’re buying, then *saddle the company with the cost of purchasing itself.* It instantly fucks the books.

Friendly reminder that Joann Fabrics isn’t closing because it’s a bad business. It’s closing bc it was bought by a private equity firm. This is also what is happening to Hooters and what happened to US Toys R Us and Red Lobster. These companies are being dismantled intentionally.

First of all, the people making edgy jokes here aren't doing it because they think it's good messaging, they're doing it because social media is like a lefty water cooler. They're goofing off with their friends. Second, are random Republicans ever rude online? Surely the same standard should apply.

OUR FIGHTS FOR BODILY AUTONOMY ARE INTERTWINED Sepsis in the 2nd trimester is up 50% in TX is intertwined w/trans healthcare access being cut off & passports seized is intertwined with rollbacks putting more lead in drinking water is intertwined with stripping disability rights #SOLIDARITY

When it comes to boycotting, just a thought. It’s okay if you can’t quit a company cold turkey. In Master Gardeners, when we encourage people to switch to native plants, the goal is 70% native, not 100%. If you were shopping at a store 80% of the time and cut it back to 60%, that 20% still hurts.
