David Ellison Is Lying in the Paper of Record
His NYT editorial shows the head of Paramount is getting increasingly desperate about the merger with Warner Bros. Discovery.

I've anecdotally heard about 5-year-old boy Spider-Man fans and young teen girl Spider-Man fans just in the last 48 hours. Spider-Man transcends.
I'm seeing a lot of SUPERHERO MOVIES ARE BACK posts in the wake of #BrandNewDay's success. Spider-Man movies were breaking box office records well before the MCU existed. They are a cinema phenomenon onto themselves, because Spider-Man is a singularly resonant and relatable character.

MAMMAL BULLYING A REPTILE: Nice body temperature dude. Did the sun pick it out for you
Good news: I got a haircut I like and I’ve been having fun with volumnizer lately to make it fluffy. Bad news: I misread the latest guidelines on plane travel and had to throw away my volumnizer at the airport. Good news: I was flying to South Carolina, minimum 70% humidity. Hair still fluffy.
After my parents were visiting set for the first time, I asked my dad what he thought. He said “I didnt realize, it’s like you’re building a house, and once an hour good looking people run in and put on a play for five minutes. Then they leave and you go back to construction.”
People think "Hollywood" is rich and famous. The reality? Film and TV is a national industry. It's a blue collar industry. And it is an industry free fall. My latest for @newrepublic.com on how the Paramount merger would crush blue collar workers who can not afford it newrepublic.com/article/2136...

When discussing Alice’s Worst Outfit in 2002’s Resident Evil, our show makes its own accidental first stab at our OWN bit of franchise nonsense: the graveyard sweater. Apologies to Anthropologie. Full episode here: pod.link/6794981355/e...
*standing up on the plane* Star Trek: Deep Space Nine remains one of the best sci-fi shows because of its embrace of complicated characters, moral ambiguity under the surface of what others see as a utopian mission statement, and a standard twenty episode season giving the show a chance to breathe.
*standing up on the plane* okay so the first thing you need to consider when interrogating if Frodo and Sam from Lord of the Rings are an example of romantic love is to understand Tolkien's context; what did same sex love mean to an academic and a veteran of world war one in the middle of the 20th c
Because everyone knows there aren't enough movie podcasts out there, my friends @jessev.bsky.social, @asatait.bsky.social, and I started one, launching today. We're watching @everydamnframe.com of various franchises, starting with #ResidentEvil. We're having fun. Have fun with us!
It begins! @jessev.bsky.social @lizshannonmiller.com and @asatait.bsky.social watch every damn frame of Paul W. S. Anderson’s “Resident Evil” and gain insight into names of all kinds, 3D maps, and graveyard sweaters. Plus the business of franchises! Ostensibly the premise of the show!

Another day working at the Met Cloisters. People keep asking me if they can conjure an eldritch spell to save the unicorn from certain death. Buddy, they won't even let me conjure it
Finally got up to the Met Cloisters last weekend and nobody told me that the Unicorn Tapestries are about how THEY HUNT AND KILL THE UNICORN???
1) Always gonna be hyped about the next GPB movie. 2) How about this time we don't give oxygen to the inevitable right-wing whiners who simply hate that people of color may occupy any part of pop culture.

Never seen this put so cleanly and concisely before: "Twitter turned breaking news into pop culture."
The second in what is apparently becoming an ongoing series where I declare longstanding American institutions dead.🪦
I think what makes this so enduringly compelling is Holland is not performing it as camp, there’s no winking, no sense that performing a woman’s song and routine is beneath him or something funny or transgressive or uncomfortable. He is completely serious and completely comfortable.
Also where are my manners?
Ain’t no rule that says a dog can’t do an SDCC panel
holy shit
If Christopher Nolan has made any mistakes in his career, it's in only casting Joey Pants one time instead of in every movie he ever made.

Blue Bottle Games, as a policy, does not use generative AI. It's something we've discussed as a team, weighing the pros and cons, and ultimately, we decided it was not for us. Recently, while chatting with a colleague, she mentioned it was useful hearing our reasoning. So: Sharing time! 1/12
