I find it endlessly infuriating how warmongers and genocide apologists act like "sit down at a table and negotiate" is not a viable option, as though talking through your differences is somehow more uncomfortable and difficult than LITERALLY MURDERING PEOPLE

One sees LLM-interested people elsewhere on here saying things like "how has AI been changing YOUR life?" And it's sort of an interesting question though for the opposite reasons they're asking it.

Was just wondering whether to renew my membership for next year. Guess that's answered that question. There is no "ethical" use of AI and there never will be.

Assorted news media talking about the effect of various things on Zach Polanski's leadership of the Green Party, presumably unaware that Green Party Leader has a fixed term if two years. He may or may not stand for reelection next year, and may or may not win if he does.

The art critic John Ruskin was so used to the female form as depicted in classical paintings that on his wedding night, so the story goes, he threw up in disgust when he saw his wife had public hair. AI’s gonna have men like that but for women without a sixth finger.

There is a bleak sort of pleasure in telling people who bring up AI in casual conversation, “Actually, I’m one of the authors AI stole from. Not an exaggeration. The judge ordered them to send me a check.” It hits them different when it’s a real person saying it.

Just saying... Plague is a disease that is endemic in Asia, the western United States, and other places. We know how to treat it with antibiotics. It is not extraordinarily transmissible. There are 1000 to 2000 cases a year across the world, maybe 10 in the US.

I think generally speaking, if your entire forward-basing presence in your most closely allied nation can be meaningfully threatened by five guys with jerry cans you are not a serious global power.

I think my favourite Jeffrey Archer story is the time he, unsuccessfully, tried to defend himself against a plagiarism suit by saying that it wasn't the exact same sentences. Obviously I also enjoyed his being banged up for perjury.

As someone who has been voting Green since the 80s, and first joined the Party in the 90s, I have mixed views about this policy. While the current Israeli government have undeniabley responsible for appalling genocidal acts, I do still support a two state solution.
