Today the new Code of Practice comes into force, systematically excluding trans people from public facilities and services across the UK. It will go down in history as the Starmer government’s shame. But it’s not too late for Andy Burnham to change course.
What a day! Helped get six @labour4transrights.bsky.social–backed candidates elected to LGBT+ Labour's national committee in the morning, then had the privilege of joining the Trans Pride march through central London in the afternoon.
Was wonderful to attend the 3rd annual service for Pride at Leeds Minster this evening, together with fellow LGBT+ Christians and allies, praising the God who made us just as we are

Despite more than 1 in 4 MPs signing my motion against the Code, it is due to come into force without any debate or vote in Parliament. I have written to the Minister for Women and Equalities urging her to withdraw it now. 2/2

Sometimes you’re going to lose in the short term, but - with the EHRC code due to pass on Thursday - I don’t think anyone can say we lost quietly 164 MPs praying against government policy is huge, especially for a motion led by a backbencher, and the labour rebellion is dozens and dozens and dozens

During the Select Committee Rebecca Paul MP stated that "Women and girls have lost medals and podium places, earnings, and some may have even been injured due to sporting bodies not complying with the Equality Act and allowing males to compete against them." We have asked her for evidence

As this is a serious allegation, made in a parliamentary setting and presented as a statement of fact, we would be grateful if you could provide the evidence on which this claim is based.
Specifically, we would welcome details of:
• The instances in which women or girls have demonstrably lost medals or podium positions as a result of sporting bodies acting unlawfully or in breach of the Equality Act.
• The evidence that women or girls have suffered financial losses or lost earnings as a consequence of sporting bodies failing to comply with the Equality Act.
• The cases to which you were referring when you stated that women or girls "may have even been injured" due to sporting bodies not complying with the Equality Act.
• Any assessments, reports, legal findings, regulatory decisions, governing body investigations, or other evidence that support the assertion that sporting organisations have failed to comply with the Equality Act in the manner described.
We note that there is a significant difference between arguing that sporting bodies should adopt a particular policy and alleging that they have acted unlawfully. Your statement appeared to make the latter claim.
Given the seriousness of the allegation, and the fact that it was made during a parliamentary committee session, we believe it is reasonable to ask for the evidential basis underpinning it.
We would therefore appreciate any sources, data, case studies, legal decisions, or other material that informed your remarks.

I have signed the fatal motion on the code of practice. The answers to the questions I raised below - and to those from other committee members - fell far short of anything workable, just or fair.

It's important we remind ourselves that trans people across the country are simply trying to exist freely. Awful stuff, racists targeting people for their skin colour. And I know my Facebook post about it is going to be grim. Also had a local school had to turn off comments because they shared pics of a class on Islam. It's grim.

Watching Mary-Ann Stephenson give evidence at the women's committee. Overwhelming feeling is one of acute political failure. No sector is safe from litigation, from either direction. The Supreme Court eradicated any clarity. The EHRC refuses to provide it. Politicians are too scared to get involved.

Couple of not-so-veiled threats from the EHRC CEO to take sports bodies and NHS England to court if they remain trans-inclusive. Shows the “balance” that has now infected the organisation and why trans people are right not to trust the body that should be protecting us. Awful stuff

Today I again raised my concerns - if these questions and others are not answered adequately by the chair of the EHRC when she comes before @commonswec.parliament.uk next week, I will be signing the fatal motion on the code of practice.
Just boosting Stella's brilliant explainer video again. It's great that 85 MPs have already backed the motion, but we're going to need considerably more than that. Keep writing to your local MP, and tell them how important it is that this Code of Practice is blocked from becoming law.

Am sure it’s not perfect but I hope it’s helpful in trying to navigate the acronyms and actions being taken.
From the open hate exemplified by Ridgewell in the 70s, to the recognition by Macpherson of institutional discrimination in the 90s, to the exposure of vile groups of officers within multiple forces in the 2020s, the evidence of white racism towards non-white people in UK policing is overwhelming.
The ability of Grok to strip women and children was not an accident. Safeguards could have been built into the chatbot, but its creators chose not to. I'm launching this High Court claim to pursue accountability for those choices.
