Cori did basically nothing but grandstand. Grandstanding is fine if you also do your actual job well, considering Mayor Bernie Sanders of Burlington, it pisses people right the hell off if you are useless at your actual job like Cori was.

my local journalism hot take is that we're not fully back until unpaid weirdos are live tweeting ANC meetings. then we'll be back (and also doomed from our awareness of what is happening at ANC meetings again)

if i have no greater legacy on this website, let it be this
(“We die like mice” is the redwall-inspired gender neutral reinvention of “we die like men” and I’m going to be posting it a LOT)
So we’re about an hour into the official city sweep of the Pig’s Eye/Fish Hatchery encampment. A couple of entrances are barricaded with mostly wood pallets, which has prevented city workers from moving in machinery to clear the camp. This has allowed camp residents to move themselves out.
Infill urban housing/upzoning/walkability is by far the top answer to this question, and there isn't really a close second.
Climate pals, what are your favorite examples of actions that simultaneously reduce climate pollution and help us adapt to climate changes that we can no longer avoid? Joint Adaptation and Mitigation (JAM), if you will.
the max miller stuff is genuinely depressing
Bernie Moreno’s reaction to Max Miller and his granddaughter “The best part of my day is when I start FaceTiming her. She's a sweet little girl. I can't even express to you what it feels like to have her in my life, I just wish her dad felt the same way.”
New from me. It's been 4 years since then-President Joe Biden & both parties in Congress blocked railroad workers across the US from striking. Railroad workers tell me things have only gotten worse on the job since then. @therealnews.com therealnews.com/railroad-job...
Railroad jobs have ‘gotten worse’ since Biden and Congress blocked workers from striking

Jim Clawburn is probably the thing in my life I’m most proud of
I think we need to have a conversation about the Dromaeosaur community and their hostility to newcomers like the tyrannosaurs and willingness to vote for whoever Jim Clawburn tells them to. we will never beat the carnosaur party unless they wise up
she's the negative/inverse example of Keith Ellison Thought* for left pols. if you have to sacrifice posting, so be it, but the math is merciless *great at constituent services, intense local hustle)
(not that it's a predictor of *all* behavior, but my general rule of "fail at constituent stuff, go home quick" for left electeds tends to be the most accurate sifter. See: Cori Bush)
Listen fuck this eugenicist monster forever at the same time it looks like this org has been investigated for many years, starting during the Biden admin, and, uh, yeah they should prob be shut down.
RFK Jr: "I'm announcing that HHS has begun the decertification of Network for Hope, the organ procurement organization."
as a living kidney donor AND as someone who has had family members' remains improperly handled by companies involved in organ + tissue donations, this angers me so much. we need organ donation, but doing it without the absolute most care + ethical diligence possible does *so* much harm

the reason I'm being Like This is that AIPAC came within 23000 votes and one Mallory McMorrow of stealing an election and there's absolutely nothing funny about that. it's an abomination.
I have come around to the idea that the Mamdani thing was as much about intra NYC grudges and residual loyalty to Cuomo as it was Mamdani's ethnic and religious identity to be fair, which would make it somewhat sui generis, but but it does leave a sour taste in one's mouth if you are Muslim lol
Must admit that I don't really understand what it is about Mamdani that made Schumer deem him essentially persona non grata. (I do get that El Sayed is a *senatorial* candidate, so the stakes for Schumer are more direct).
HOLY SHIT everyone stop what you're doing the Oxford Rare Jewish language classes are OPEN!!!!!
You may remember me sharing this GoFundMe a few times in recent months about the family of a Baltimore City College student. His father was abducted by ICE while his mother was pregnant. Last week, the baby came, but is in the NICU with a number of health problems. Please share and donate if you can

frequent and reliable is key to successful public transit. I can take bus into my town, but it only comes 4 times per day. I have used it maybe 3 times in last decade. Had to walk back 3 miles after doing errands.
An actually underrated potential positive for Dems in light of Abdul’s victory is that it gives traditionally centrist or otherwise poor Dems on Palestine on an easy out for polarizing against AIPAC and pro-Israel politics— they’re trying to cost Dems the Senate.
hey is it okay when local cliquey parapolitics makes your body shut down & try to kill you for a week or two ongoing
I frew up
I am hawkish on Russia and think our spending time and money and credibility trying to run a Raj in the Middle East is making our job of rolling back Russian aggression much harder.
One important way of doing this is going to be shrinking our global military footprint in a big way. Which brings me to my proposal: end CENTCOM's entire presence within the first 100 days.
I know it sucks, but Dems have got to be prepared to inherit a munitions-and-readiness hole that is going to be expensive to fill, but which will need to be filled. Hardly the only such hole, but it will be a big one.
Saw somebody complaining that Stevens probably didn’t mean it when she said she was happy to back El-Sayed and to that I ask you to think back to when you were in kindergarten two or three weeks ago and remember that the teacher made you apologize for hitting Timmy even if you thought he deserved it
Being from Pittsburgh and reading this is extremely funny because every year our mayor comes to thank the rich hobbyists who pay for downtown hotel rooms and 12 dollar slushies called Wolf Piss because they are literally vital to the economy
Bluesky was built for you, but now it’s realising that letting you run riot means they’ll never move into profit Commies and furries do not a business model make
Super PACs just started pouring dark money into the FL-25 Democratic primary in the last 24 hours to keep AIPAC-backed incumbent Jared Moskowitz in office. We need everyone to get the word out to overcome this corrupt spending and win our primary on August 18.
Disc of Chinkultic, 590 CE, Maya ball player, a ruler or elite participant, in ceremonial attire during a ritual ballgame. Framed by hieroglyphic inscriptions that record the event and its participants, this monument reflects the deep political, religious, and cultural significance of the ballgame.
This 100% and also ... elected officials need to be more accountable to back-room efforts to slow down transit and safe streets infrastructure. Threatening phone calls to transportation staff can't be traced. "If you build that bus/bike/transit lane, I'll zero out your hiring budget" type shit.
Policymakers need to be internalizing the costs of inaction/delay via escalation much earlier in the life cycle of infrastructure development, imo.
If you can afford to buy good quality tools—and that’s what work shoes are, whether for standing on your feet all day or walking long distances in rough terrain or mucking out barns or working a fishing boat deck—they will last longer and cost you less on many levels—aka opposite of a poverty tax.
