Our communist society has done the overproduction, from the classic Karl Marx story "capitalism leads to overproduction"

i mean, the thing is that basically every major producer-state (Japan, now China) finds it hard to rebalance because it is a lot easier to boom on industrial production then it is with a more rebalanced economy
China’s first official response to industrial overcapacity allegations assails its critics and defends its position as the “world’s factory,” Mary Gallagher writes.
In terms of "fanfic premises where you get a magic sex tattoo on your wrist at 18", I rate this a B-. It's better than your future soulmate's name, but not as good as magically revealing whether you're a dom or sub and sorts you into the matching bom or sub house at BDSM Hogwarts
i'm locked in on this film sorry to anyone else
AI is effective for knowledge work and yeah basically all jobs are going to be managing it, I think you're going to see a lot of outsourcing because business process outsourcers are going to be able to use AI to do a lot of the heavy lifting in a way that it may not make sense for SME to do.
thinking about the nightmare future where AI *is* effective for knowledge work and that *doesn't* destroy all the jobs but but *does* turn every job in to purely managerial and strategy-alignment work because implementation becomes free

Someone seeing you or a photo on you online should not be consent for them to make a digital slave version of you to abuse at their pleasure but yet—!
Genuinely driving me insane to see even well intentioned fans of ai not mentioning the various hydra heads of this issue at all — high schoolers sharing deepfaked nudes of classmates, nudify sites, an icloud nude leak quantity of fake salacious photos generated probably each month
Is this just going to become the unacknowledged dirty little secret of video-gen AI, the same way social media companies knew that right wing accounts tended to break moderation rules more? The dominant use of this technology being “imagine if this person couldnt refuse you”?
Not being funny but if you can’t connect our current moment of resurgent and revanchist violent misogyny driven in part by a deeply embittered Silicon Valley oligarchy to even a ‘well-intentioned’ filmmaker just casually saying, “Imagine, you could fuck an infamously objectified dead woman,” then,
I would probably go see this movie if it were about the inner workings of the Fornication Stasi
I still cannot believe "what if America was a totalitarian enforced celibacy regime" is the premise of a romantic comedy
Wish I had a photo but I loved the University of Innsbruck signs by the taps emploring you absolutely to drink the tap water becuase it was essentially pure glacial springwater. And it did taste fantastic.
@danwaterfield.bsky.social the University of London caters for your requirements.
And for new builds, there's still regulations barring only unisex toilets (from Badenoch's tenure, of course, and still unrepealed by Labour 🙄)
Government to lay new law to halt the march of gender-neutral toilets in buildings
New requirements will be brought forward for single sex toilet facilities in new non-domestic buildings to alleviate safety, privacy and dignity concerns.
gov.uk
Well, as David said, under current guidance they'd have to have separate cubicled sinks too, and that's very expensive and time-consuming to implement for an existing business that doesn't already have that setup.
Honestly suspect the de facto safest option will just be for providers to basically play dumb: just go "yeah, use whichever one you want" and then if anyone complains abt someone using the "wrong" toilet, just go "Oh, well we can't really do anything about it now, they'll be done in a minute".
really glad we've got clarity with all this new guidance in the uk but um. like. hypothetically speaking. what are you meant to do if you forgot what sex they assigned you at birth. it was like a really really long time ago and everything,
The party whose leader sang Hitler Youth song at Jews as a teenager is more politically engaged to this than the Tories.
A Reform UK spokesperson says it “beggars belief that Kemi Badenoch has hired a former neo-Nazi”. Says it’s “alarming news for the Jewish community in Britain”
an uber driver wearing sock puppets on both hands that talk to each other about how bad the steering wheel tastes your whole ride
Weird way to discover the UK had reintroduced the death penalty, and that we are going to dig up George Washington and Ben Franklin to be the first victims.
Why do all these types of people look like a badly Sharpied egg taking an epic shit
I maintain my firm position that academia isn't being murdered (as people claim) so much as it is in a race to commit suicide with the GOP's own effort to kill it.
If the academy gets pulled into coming out swinging against the biggest adaptation of Homer in probably a couple generations off the back of one prominent scholar deciding to be Reviewer 2 to Nolan's work, it will say, IMO, pretty damning things about academia's ability to foster public engagement.
No work survives contact with mass popularity fully intact, and hardcore fans of anything must come to terms with that to channel the popularity into something beneficial.
This doesn't even entail liking the movie or praising Nolan as a genius, it's just is a bad idea and also decidedly ungracious to put out not just one, but several articles brutally savaging a work that passionately tried to capture the beauty and power of the work you devoted your life to.
When in your life is there ever going to be this much public fascination and investment in a story so ancient and fundamental? There is an audience out there which is primed to hear more about this and find a whole new interest in it who are seeing you mock a passionate adaptation as slop for rubes.
I'm sorry, I know academics who specialize in Homer probably watched it with a laundry list of grievances, but if I scroll through youtube Shorts right now I can find people making the kind of memes and skits about a 2800 year old epic that Breaking Bad produced at its peak popularity.

Incredible. Even while u-turning Kemi will just not back down.
In a post on X he says he’ll instead be advising the Conservative Party on how young men become radicalised
Badenoch's two biggest flaws are that she's nowhere near as smart as she thinks she is and is incapable of admitting error. Both well illustrated by this fiasco.
