my takeaway from AES winning is that he needs to drop anything people liked about him, campaign exactly as if haley stevens won and hate himself and his voters as much as her supporters do - The Politics Whiz

Republican power grabs in Kansas and Missouri are going down in flames with 18-25% of votes reported so far. Missouri's Amendment 4 aimed to make citizen-initiated constitutional amendments practically impossible. Kansas' Amendment 1 was designed to flip the state Supreme Court to ban abortion

I don't even know what to say. This is real, this is true, so, like, thank you all, from the bottom of my heart. This took over 25 years to happen so if there's any lesson here it's either "keep at it, who knows" or "many people are divorced"

image of a gold record superimposed on part of Vaughan Oliver's iconic cover for the Mountain Goats' "Tallahassee" album, with a banner beneath it showing the entire album cover, an RIAA seal, and the text: Presented to THE MOUNTAIN GOATS to commemorate the RIAA Gold certification of more than 500,000 copies of the 4AD single "No Children"

i started this train of thought as a joke but now i do think there's something to the idea that the way to sell the green revolution to the US public is that we're being denied Good Deals on cheap chinese cars and solar panels and there's nothing more unamerican than saying we can't have a good deal

(One of the best bits of Tao's talk is where he talks about how research exposition shows friction. You can squint and see AI writing across the room because the paragraphs have balance and uniformity, which indicate mass-produced prose. Real thought is very spiky and arrhythmic.)

this is an interesting interview and if i were clipping it for social media i would have excerpted "We're still a place where we don't downrank links. We love sending traffic to people. We send two million clicks a day to publishers" rather than the part that'll just piss people off lol

Bluesky's new CEO Toni Schneider on the platform's reputation for being a liberal bubble: "Yes, we definitely want that to change. It is already changing. It certainly wasn’t designed to attract one specific group of people."

It’s hard to explain but tv was better when you couldn’t watch the show you wanted whenever you wanted to watch it and most of the shows were worse and the TVs were worse and the entire experience was worse, that’s when it was better

yeah I believe in a "two state solution" - meaning i would like to see "a solution" to the question of how a quantum system can exist in "two states" at the same damn time !!!!😂😂🤣🤣

(tavern comedian): ya see these formations and it’s like why don’t they make the whole footsoldier out of the shield? (inventor of armor, spitting out mead): fetch my scribe!
