I usually try to explain it like this: picture Bethany Mandel as Pete Buttigieg. Now imagine they're Syrian. Doesn't look so much like the Latin American debt crisis was caused by Greek gods gambling now, does it?
This is just rank Islamophobia and anti-Arab racism, based on the bigoted idea that there is something inherently scary about a president with the last name "El-Sayed." It is incumbent on all of us to call it out.

I think folks have to ask themselves if harboring hurt feelings and injured egos is more important than climbing out of the competitive authoritarian snake pit we live in today.

Occassional reminder that bot posts with splitter / wrecker messaging will get a lot more common as the midterms ramp up. Recommend blocking them and moving on. Also suspect a lot of the “get every liberal to 1k follower” accounts were setups for this sort of thing.
The band Chat Pile has this one tweet that goes “The two main types of people who live in OKC are stomp-clap mega church yuppies and people who regularly crash their car into the side of a house.” And they have an ongoing bit of reposting news whenever someone in OKC crashes a car into a house.

Notes from Poland @notesfrompoland.bsky.social · 2w agoPoland's right-wing opposition PiS party is set to split after a more moderate faction of over 30 MPs loyal to deputy leader and former Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki refused to sign a loyalty pledge demanded by leader Jarosław Kaczyński, who said today that meant they had effectively resigned.
I would honestly respect that position, because it’s basically how I feel about establishment Democrats. But reactionary centrists are constitutionally incapable of talking to the Democratic base in a register other than electability concern trolling.
