This incidentally was the fundamental failure mode with most of New Atheism’s complaints: it was easiest to argue against conservative evangelical Biblical* literalism**, so they just declared that true Christianity and all other forms frauds. *lol **lol
Haydon@haydonmp.bsky.social · 2d agoOn the Christianity front it seems like the conservative evangelicals just won the popular narrative of literal biblical interpretation, which is also not what they do, but is what the broad conception of Christianity as communicated by non Christians appears to be.
Turns out “Yes, we may have blown up a school but at least we also made the country poorer and less safe” isn’t the most motivating thing to hear.

I think both things are true: 1. Hong was an incredibly flawed candidate who lacked the discipline and media-savvy that AES and Zohran have. 2. ~40% of the vote for an unapologetic socialist would have been unthinkable even a year ago and our ideas are clearly winning
