it really does feel as if Democrats en masse are telling trans ppl that they don't want us as part of their coalition. if you disagree with them – if you *want* trans ppl to be a part of the coalition – then please call these trans-exclusionary Dems DIVISIVE because they are DIVIDING OUR COALITION!

screenshot from linked-to essay that reads: In my book Excluded — which examines the recurring problem of how marginalized groups are often excluded from movements that they have a stake in — I discuss (on p.57) how the word “divisive” is a red flag for me. To paraphrase that passage: When trans people critique trans-exclusion within our own communities and coalitions, we are often called “divisive” for doing so. In contrast, I have never once heard anyone use the word “divisive” to describe cis people who promote or tacitly support trans-exclusion (in this case, Talarico, Turek, et al.). The fact that acts that marginalize trans people are not typically described as being “divisive” implies that there is a presumed and unspoken “one-ness” that exists in people’s minds that implicitly precludes trans people. I’d argue that the central issue here isn’t what candidate X says about trans athletes or trans healthcare (although that is certainly important), or what trans person Y says in response. Rather, it’s that many cisgender Democrats will by default view Y as divisive and X as not. And by doing so, they are essentially communicating (whether they realize it or not) that trans people are not really a part of the Democratic coalition in their eyes: We are either votes to be taken for granted or else “dead weight” that the party should drop.

so my village has been having a lot of issues. rather than deal with any of them, i grabbed a goat and had all the villagers pile their blame and hate onto the goat. while we were getting ready to drive it into the woods (and absolve ourselves) the goat BIT ME????? RUDE?!?

This remains a relentlessly stubborn myth about native North American warfare despite the evidence pointing quite loudly the other way. Often the problem here is failing to distinguish between the 'battle' - sometimes fairly performance - and the raid or ambush, where the killing mostly happened.

My impression is that some Native American tribes did a lot of raiding but that it was often intentionally nonlethal. I’m sure that some folks got killed anyway, but that seems different from setting out on a raid for the purpose of killing.

The Right didn't veer hard into Trans Panic because the Left overreacted to the workaday transphobia they were organically fomenting. The Right veered into transphobia in order to repurpose the infrastructure already in place from the Gay Panic industry. And Gay Panic production can resume any time.

Most of the recent changes in LGBTQ+ attitudes have occurred among Republicans. For example, in 2021 and 2022, 55% of Republicans said they favored legal same-sex marriage, but today, the figure is 37%. Among independents, support has dropped six points, to 67%, while Democrats’ views are the same as in 2022 (87% in favor).

I have a problem with trans people playing sports: There aren't nearly close to enough of them doing it, and we need to smash down the barriers preventing it, and generally preventing anyone trans from living their best, most fulfilling life. Fuck anyone who wants to stop, silence, or exclude them.
