Looking for a good waste of time.
part of me wants to expand on this with "buts" & caveats about cultural & marketing programming etc, but what can you say, the outcomes show their own conclusions
While I’m making people mad by claiming consumers get what they want, a lot of consumers really do like big houses with no lot lines in the exurbs. Good urban form exists in lower quantities than demand for it but I think exurban housing has a very high demand and that’s why there’s so much of it.
I LOVE how @propublica.org dealt with official comment here, editorially and stylistically.
A year ago, @propublica.org told you immigration agents had detained more than 170 U.S. citizens. We’ve updated our count, and we’ve got all the receipts. The tally: At least 506 citizens detained. Sometimes held at gunpoint, handcuffed, or even deported. projects.propublica.org/american-cit...
Saying he'd be cool with Iran nuking my home city is pretty bad but not quite as bad as when Hillary said some trump supporters were deplorable so I can see why the media turned the latter into a major scandal and not the former
BREAKING: In Nebraska rally, Trump just suggested he would be unbothered to see Iran "take out" LA or San Diego: “They could take out a city,” he said. “Let them take—Let them take out Los Angeles. Let them take out San Diego. That’s—this is a very small price to pay."

US, Israeli and European far-right figures to gather for conference in Israel
Trump’s counter-terrorism ‘czar’, Sebastian Gorka, was scheduled to speak at conference but White House says he will no longer attend

Up to 1928, he had taught about a third of all German physicists, basically every big name in quantum physics was one of his students. And then the original DOGE fired him and left his position unoccupied for years before replacing him with a Nazi because quantum physics was woke.
Someone out there got their research grant cancelled via text message and now your kid dies in agony because instead of that research happening Elsewhere they end up getting a job as a barista
Someone out there had to shut down a freezer full of samples going back 60 years, and is now waiting tables instead of helping cure Alzheimer's disease or colon cancer
When most contemporary higher-education leaders talk about Restoring Trust they really mean we should stop criticizing their awful decisions.
With its autumn colors, this maple at Graceland Cemetery stands out among the mostly green trees all around it. 🍁
One of the inevitable things about the US slamming its dick in the car door with scientific research, is that the brain drain will be exponential. The top researchers, the biggest names in the field, will leave, taking with them their top students, the *next* generation's biggest names in the field
They're full of shit, but the list of top-selling cars in the US (2026 YTD) is bad: 1) Ford F-series 560K 2) Chevy Silverado 423K 3) Honda CR-V 337K 4) Dodge Ram 325K 5) Toyota Camry 261K 6) GMC Sierra 257K 7) Toyota RAV4 254K 8) Toyota Tacoma 215K 9) Nissan Rogue 202K 10) Toyota Corolla 195K
The folk understanding of the car market where the American consumer is not at fault for buying horribly stupid vehicles is always so wild to see. In what universe did they stop producing sedans?
very tired of being told it is the responsibility of urban democratic voters never to risk possibly maybe by chance seeming less than respectful of rural red state life and then watching thousands in nebraska cheer on the president joking about a nuclear strike on me and millions of my neighbors
The billionaires (and trillionaire) and their platforms Gotta Go. Don’t even care how they Go now, but they gotta Go.
Elite media editors have been caught doing this far too often, especially with featured (and coddled) "undecided voters" They keep doing it because not only are there no consequences, they're often failed upwards (by the same mediocre legacy old men who push their "meritocracy" narrative)
"Six of the “lifelong Democrats” and “former Obama voters” are actually elected Republicans "Undecided voters" literal Republican operatives who NYT suspiciously never Googled and were mysteriously chosen: New York Times' ongoing undecided young voters focus group works at a Republican consulting
It’s confusing that @theatlantic.com described this man as a “a lifelong Democrat who had voted for Trump for the first time in 2024” who when these are some of his very easily findable FB posts:
A Haitian man legally immigrated to Ohio, then was given an ankle monitor bc Trump withdrew his status. He threw himself in front of truck. The trucker, who voted for Trump, is haunted. “Pierre was doing what he was supposed to do. We did not do right by him.” www.theatlantic.com/politics/202...
Interesting situation where I have to be very circumspect with my words all the time and the president can openly suggest annihilating specific cities in my state.
Trump: "With the war, it's just artificial. It's a little bit high. It's a small price to pay ... let them take out Los Angeles, let them take out San Diego. This is a very small price to pay."
Please, Iran, if you're forced to retaliate in the US, leave the Balbo Monument alone. That's the Balbo Monument, Lakefront Trail, Chicago, 41.8615° N, 87.6136° W, right behind our Police Memorial, 41.8827° N, 87.6630° W.

The corrupt gangsters running this government violate the law daily and use government funds for partisan politics to bribe voters in violation of the law. Trump has been emboldened by a rogue Supreme Court which has given him immunity and taken a blowtorch to the Constitution.

The bit about the $600 survival food buckets stood out to me, because when I was there in 2019, he was having a fire sale on them.

I don’t think 400 years of American spirituality can be more concisely summed up than by this sentence
Starting a training course for the left that just consists of me saying "something can be morally compelling but still tactically foolish" again and again and again.
