America is for all of us

To be absolutely clear: This was another Y2K situation. Lots and lots of people worked diligently for months and years, at great cost, taking hours away from their friends & family, to make our elections a bit more free and fair. Voting was still threatened! It still took record-breaking turnout!

This is so wrong The reason “Trump didn’t steal the elections” is because we & the pro-voter coalition stopped him EIGHT times over the past 21 months Here’s how: a thread (1/x)

I'm so glad Haley Stevens self immolated. There's long been a feeling on the left that dems would rather lose than win with a leftist. Seeing the entire institutional democratic party circle the wagons around Abdul should be a good reminder that dems really really do want to win.

Rep. Jim Clyburn, Rep. Haley Stevens’ former mentor, said he would support expelling her from the House Democratic Caucus after she backed a Republican. https://www.washingtonsun.com/congress/jim-clyburn-haley-stevens-mentor-expel-democratic-caucus

Getting mad online at Ken Martin, who I blame both for the Dems not winning enough and also because I assume he’s the boss of the party that I loathe.

Still giddy about this. Come January there will be zero Republican governors anointing themselves imperator wardens of the holy southern border. No national guard stunts, no meme bussing, no Prigozhin-esque rants about asylum seekers in front of a platoon of state troopers.

Map of the partisan breakdown of governor's houses in the American southwest. With Democrats controlling, among others, California, Nevada, Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico, Kansas and Texas.

I don't pretend to know anything about political strategy, but when it comes to restraint my instinct is that the GOP will cry regardless of what the Dems do, so you may as well give them something to cry about.

Here’s the problem: There is SO much criticism of Democrats on the internet, there is no such thing as something small. It is 24/7. It is non-stop. It is being done in good faith, bad faith, by republicans, by leftists, by democrats, by state actors, by journalists. The scale is unfathomable.

Oh okay. So Trump wins a plurality and it's a complete sea-change in American life that requires every media outlet, educational institution, and corporation to alter their entire identities. But Dems sweep an election with the largest margin since Watergate and there's no mandate to do anything.

"If Democrats lurch far left on policy, the voters who gave them an enormous victory on Tuesday will probably be strongly tempted to switch back to the GOP or stay home in future elections." Read more from the Editorial Board: https://wapo.st/4z0x1j8

It would have cost Jared Golden absolutely nothing to call 17 year-old Jose Adalberto Herrera's mother when he got abducted by ICE on his way to work because his uncle (driving the car) got stopped by police Jared Golden chose to not exhibit moral leadership. That's why his constituents were fed up

Ezra Klein's post-election analysis doesn't shout out Bernie Sanders or AOC, but does glaze centrist darling Jared Golden — who is retiring because his constituents hate him.

There's a reason why my book implicitly treats left-YIMBYism as a successor ideology to the New Deal: Roosevelt understood that economic growth isn't inherently corrosive to egalitarian politics. In fact, growth is going to be one of the preconditions for building social democracy here.

Socialist-urbanist mayors in NYC, DC, Seattle, and now LA. The people demand the woke growth machine, and we should give it to them.

It's possible I'm being a hopeless optimist but I am hopeful that this race will help folks on the left recognize that racism is something that some people actually believe in. Racism can't be turned off with M4A & is in fact something that needs to be dealt with if you want to enact M4A.

The funniest part of this subplot is leftists have said for 10+ years that running a sufficiently leftist candidate will neuter appeals to racial grievance, but now that one of their candidates was the subject of these attacks it's "I don't think you shitlibs realize that Republicans ARE RACIST!"

speaking of Blexas, I think Hinojosa and the downballot sweep is actually a significantly bigger deal than Talarico (who is, to be sure, a big deal) if they can deliver, if they can convince Texas that voting blue was the right call and they should keep doing it, the whole country changes
