Mostly badger, occasionally mermaid. Terminally online.
The "contrition" by @bengoldacre.bsky.social is just an act. He's seen the outrage and decided it's bad for his career. I've just seen the following tweets. Just the entitled, privileged, posh boys looking after their own. Racism, child rape, misogyny is irrelevant. Fuck you Ben Goldacre.
Every so often that polite mask slips, offering more context for the "confusing" choice of defenses for the indefensible.
If "Death of the Author" means interpreting a text need not conform to the creator's intent, this might be "Death of the Audience," where there is no interpretation to do at all. A reader is not expected (nor encouraged) to find meaning. Consumerist Non-Being, like an anti-zen breathing exercise.
Don't yall get tired of this? Don't yall enjoy the puzzle of figuring out what a story means?
The Tories don’t think much of their councillors, do they? I can think of some Tory councillors who are decent people, in the centre ground of politics and frankly deserve better.
Well that's a vote of confidence for all Tory councillors.

Once again, I come back to the fact these guys have created a situation where one of the UK's leading, cis female athletes is scared to go to the loo alone, and the fact that they are celebrating this as a step forward for women's rights.

Audience-Capture Miserabilism is the great enemy all of us on the liberal posting app must fight every day you can get so much engagement for saying obviously false things that resonate with people who are extremely sad
Food, man. Food is so much better than it was in 1986. All of it. Poor-people food, restaurant food, fresh food, frozen food. Food is just a hell of a lot better.
Right. Here's my big pitch: Muppet James Bond James Bond in…A Heart-Felt Goodbye Dominic Cooper as Bond Kermit M Frog Mrs Moneypiggy Beaker & Dr Bunsen HoneyQ The agents of G.O.N.Z.O. want to kidnap the world's chickens. MI5 has a mole (Rizzo the Rat). An agent is undercover as a chef in Sweden.

Oxford public toilets: Where to go when you need to go
We are all the Clarion – and, sometimes, we all need the loo. And especially if you're pregnant, have an unreliable postnatal pelvic floor, are looking after children, or just need to spend a penny wi...

Taking my time to really listen and learn from the very valid concerns of the MAHA movement:
we should hear MAHA out about this they might be onto something
The leadership of the RMT rail union have rejected the latest plans to get trains running from Oxford to Milton Keynes. They say Chiltern Railways’ recruitment of Customer Service Inspectors to carry out guard-like duties is “an abhorrent attempt to undermine the safety-critical role of the guard”.
No to driver-only operations on Chiltern
RMT has rejected plans to introduce Driver Only Operation (DOO) on the new East West Rail line following confirmation that Chiltern Railways intends to operate services on the new route without a seco...

I know this isn't unique or new but I am SO TIRED of everything and everybody being so FUCKING STUPID all the time.
There a million things wrong with the EHRC guidance, as you all know, but for me the weirdest thing about it all is that its authors don't even seem to be aware of the possibility that someone asked to leave a "single sex" facility might refuse.
Interestingly this notes that the Guides are _not_ affected by the ruling. But since they complied in advance & told trans girls they weren't welcome, I can't imagine any LGBT+ folks (or, by extension, anybody who gives a shit about LGBT+ folks) would trust them again even if they retracted that.
We have also written a detailed legal explainer about why we think the code of practice gets the law wrong.
Anyone who claims AI is a great support tool for neurodivergent people is welcome to gargle my entire unwaxed nutsack because they just held a pillow over the face of one of my most-used ADHD support tools to replace it with the million wrong opinions with a lanyard around its neck machine.
I remember when Gemini replaced google assistant. I said "Okay google, set a timer for five minutes", and instead of setting a timer like it used to, it said "I can't do that. Would you like to hear some things I can do?" so I cannot WAIT for this change to make my phone significantly less useful.
This is a very good explainer of why the EHRC code is surprising even within the current case law This is a legislative issue, the law will need to change to unravel this mess, but a greater degree of accurate clarity for duty bearers on these points would make a big everyday difference until then

You know who else “worked with collaborators?”
Someone in my writing group who hasn't said anything for months submitted 100 new pages over the weekend and said he has started “working with a collaborator” and after exactly two comments on his pages he let it slip it's ChatGPT. This is gonna be a bloodbath.

As an ADHD-riddled sack of spiders I for one am delighted at one of my primary support tools being replaced by a resource-intensive simulation of an ADHD-riddled sack of spiders.
The worst possible outcome to somone just trying to get to where they needed to go. Every road fatality is one too many. Unfortunately we are still no where close to achieving #visionzero in Oxford.
A 65-year old cyclist has died after a road traffic collision on Iffley Road at 11pm yesterday. A 21-year old man has been arrested on suspicion of death causing dangerous driving. Police are appealing for witnesses and dashcam footage of a grey Volkswagen Golf.
