As a reminder, in 2020, more than 60 people accused Warren Ellis of grooming and sexual impropriety, coming together to create the website somanyofus.com. In its most recent update, in 2023, the site posted: "To the best of our knowledge, Warren Ellis took none of the steps we hoped he would."

With fantasy especially, stereotypes and problematic tropes can pop up. @mollyrookwood.bsky.social has a great article about on antisemitism in fiction and fantasy, for instance: www.rookwoodediting.com/post/antisem... #StetChat #fictionediting
Antisemitism in Fantasy and Fairy Tales
I recently had the privilege of giving a presentation on antisemitism in fiction and fantasy, a topic I care about deeply. Antisemitism is ingrained in our stories and storytelling in ways we often do...

I'm really, really, really tired of public health officials going out of their way to tell us that the dead had "underlying conditions" — a phrase so vague as to be useless in actually informing risk assessment. It's just ableism...
Why? "Underlying conditions" offers relief to a reader the coverage presumes is healthy. It works especially well because it is so vague. Without knowing the conditions these two lost souls had, readers can supply whatever medical history would make their deaths feel safely remote. 🧵

Barry Smith's drawing of Bran Mak Morn looks like Miles Davis in the 1970s after some trad-jazz diehard has told him that this new funk direction is utter garbage.
I imagine that is the case. Like the time I when I was working at WB and we had a meeting at DC before the first Batman Day and I asked why they choose Sept 19 and if it had anything to do with Batman lore and they said it was because it falls between Labor Day and Halloween 🫠
Surely the Sex Purge date in the movie is August 7th because Universal gave it an August 7, 2026 release date before filming was complete, right? It's just naked corporate synergy?

The prep isn't as bad as it used to be -- pills, not the drink -- and you'll have one, uh, busy evening and then you go in and get the greatest nap of your life and then eat a glorious meal. Get yourself checked out.
Well, I am of colonoscopy age now and I got my first-ever one yesterday. The prep wasn't fun but not as awful as I'd imagined. My appt was at 6am on Monday, I was home just after 7am. There's no recovery except catching up on the sleep you missed. So, if you need a nudge to get yours, this is it!

Your little oopsie "mistakes" had me worrying for a year of my life about my partner going to jail for up to a decade based on lies likely fed to you by the top of the federal government. Show everyone what you're covering up in these emails and texts. There's a reason you don't want them released.

@abdulelsayed.bsky.social triumphing over something like $60 million, $32-ish million of it AIPAC money, is not a "narrow" victory, it's a people's earthquake. This kind of spending is oligarchy in action, to smother democracy through its formal channels, and is getting normalized. Still he won.

Teach a man to fish and he’ll get drunk on a boat for one day. Feed a man to a fish and you’ll have a cool story for the rest of your life
Also, speaking with a (slight) imitation of the accent of the person you're speaking to is often indicative of a multilingual speaker. It's actually good practice.
People are making fun of AOC for having a slight southern accent while speaking in Memphis but they clearly don’t know the pain of habitually and unconsciously imitating the speaking style of the people around you

Big tax results out of Missouri tonight: Voters statewide rejected by an huge margin a GOP ballot measure to phase out the income tax. They also renewed a sales tax to keep state parks free. And Kansas City approved a package of $1.7 billion of bonds for infrastracture.

Reminder to everyone living with smoky air right now: DRINK MORE WATER. You're inhaling particulate even if you can't see it, your body needs to flush that crud out, and it needs water to do so. You're probably gonna produce more mucus and that's annoying, but it's helping clean out the crud.
