When Democrats have the power, we have to use it. Universal childcare. Paid leave. Medicare for All. Abolishing ICE. No more incrementalism or moderating our aspirations. We need to do the work of repair, restoration, and reconstruction.

This “get things done, no retribution” line is lots of things, but above all it is incoherent. Elon Musk is an unelected billionaire whose armies of teen creeps destroyed entire agencies in a weekend. There is no way of “getting things done” that doesn’t involve holding him accountable.

"The American people don't want us to get even; they want us to get things done on their behalf." House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, who is now poised to become the next House Speaker, says that Democrats will focus on affordability concerns and not retribution after their midterm wins.

man, the funniest thing about "now is not the time for revenge" is that revenge is probably the lowest common denominator in the big tent. like it'll be real work to get the libs and socialists to agree on affordability policies. everyone's cool with revenge, though

avg bluesky user: don’t call it “revenge” when it’s accountability under the law. framing matters. your aunt on facebook: I want my nazi scalps

Oh, hello! I didn’t see you there. Anyway “healing the nation” by doing nothing has not only never worked, it also always sends the message to evil people that the only consequences they will ever face for selling out their own country will be mild inconvenience

cop: did he send any texts around the time of the crash? cop 2: he posted on bluesky "padding my three track album with 26 skits and interludes" cop: not bad but it ain't going viral cop 2: posting isn't just about going viral cop: (sighs) not this shit again

there's also the common belief that peoples' online behavior is always a facade or persona--but in nearly all cases, looking at someone's disturbing posting life is actually an *excellent* window into their psychology

The media's takeaway from an El-Sayed win is the same as it would have been from a Stevens win, and the same as it will be if El-Sayed wins the general, or if he loses it: everyone, no matter who they are, needs to take several steps to the right.

That's what taxes are, man. That's the definition of taxes. "You are subsidizing things you might never use" man shut the fuck up. My taxes currently subsidize like oil company exec private jets, you think I'm upset at low-income people eating inexpensive bananas?

Opinion: Mamdani's idea may sound appealing, but it's NYC taxpayers who will take the hit, subsidizing discounts they may never even use.
