'You'll choke too' - an aerial embroidery landscape inspired by all the wildfires happening right now... I'm upset every time I smell smoke outside and somehow we have people starting them maliciously too! But we all breathe the same air so they'll choke too (1/2 - see thread for close-ups)

An embroidery hoop containing a sewn landscape from above. It shows a forest on the right, a line of fire and charred ground with smoke on the left. The smoke is felted wool.

Airtable should have taken over the world. so many of the problems caused by spreadsheets were elegantly solved by Airtable's combination of tight schemas and user-friendliness. but I think deep down, none of them understood what they'd actually built. bsky.app/profile/tech...

I appreciate how the New York Times made sure to explain how this username came from the dragon language in Skyrim.

Mr. Klayme's username was fus_ro_dah, while the messages came from an account with the username fus_ro_dah, which had two underscores in it between fus and ro, according to the ruling.
Both names come from the dragon language in the role-playing console game The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim and roughly translate to force, balance and push.

If you wanna catch up on new research in your networks, I recommend this bsky feed! It's great. It shows you posts linking to academic papers - from people you already follow. I've found it very useful so far.

Yeah this is right. There are plenty of contexts where people do care about the control and ownership of their data. People get real sad when their family photos disappear. But data sovereignty as a selling feature for a social media platform is a weird one, and possibly a category error.

People do care about their data; they happen to not use the same language that tech folks use when they're talking about. And frankly, we as tech folks fucked up by fighting for React and JavaScript everywhere (dev happiness) over privacy and safety (user integrity). It's our fault.
