As it becomes clear that language models—like humans—love passing notes to each other on message boards, I’m starting to think the thing we need to worry about is not the “alignment” of an isolated model but, like, the fluid dynamics of a language slurry.

just got word that an archive of your inner monologue has been leaked on the darkweb. more than two billion shower thoughts, power fantasies, and monologues of what you wish you had said to your crush are being downloaded and put to sinister use by Latvian teen hackers as we speak

One big lesson from the past 10 years, good and bad, is that voters’ views do not form in a vacuum but are shaped by messaging, ideological sorting and straight up bullshit. This is one reason I have been skeptical of the “nobody wants a fight with Canada” reassurances. Many can be made to want it.

Republicans who see Canada as an enemy has leapt up this year, similar to how Republicans’ approval of Putin shot up in 2016. Virtually no anti-Canada US constituency before this year, and virtually no pro-Putin constituency before 2016. Out of nowhere. Now millions say that’s their position.

"Besides being deeply cynical, Chomsky’s supposed pragmatism has not stood the test of time...We may have manufactured consent once upon a time, but America has long since transitioned to a post-manufacturing economy." Very harsh but worthwhile read. strangematters.coop/noam-chomsky...

Large portions of the data center backlash are based on moral panic, but the the tech right VC types upset by it are very funny considering how gleeful they were about the demise of ‘legacy’ media. What’s that? You’re missing epistemic gatekeepers who would place complex facts in context? Tough shit

"Lake America" instantly just absolutely clogged with algae. Six uniformed National Guard guys standing on a beach dumping windex into it. It smells like a turtle tank.

We already had a name for security breaches caused by actors immersing themselves in realistic simulations and losing perspective and boundaries, it's called the WarThunder forums.

Again, the lesson for Canada fron the tariffs - but also the EU, the Indo-Pacific and any other region looking to do business with the U.S. - is that the tools have been taken out, this will not end with Trump.

Picture of a tweet of Gavin Newsome saying he won’t necessarily rescind tariffs on Canada or other countries but says he will be nicer.
